not a problem, a basic post I figured everyone could use....
There are plenty of other filters out there, but the ones I posted are the most popular. And I did not post the FRAM number because I would not wish that filter even for my worst enemy..

FYI the large capacity filters work fine with lowered cars as they're just fatter instead of longer so they dont' extend down more below the car.

Fram???

Post by shelbydodge » Sun Aug 27, 2006 6:13 pm

What is so wrong with Fram filters? I've used them for 25+ years and never a problem.

FYI I was at Wal-Mart yesterday and found the OEM Mopar Viper Filter for around ~$5-6

Threw it on the car last night and I'm very happy with it, fills up that extra space around the filter nicely.

Just a heads up. My local Walmart has the (Mopar - 5281090 - $6.70 - @ any dealer) filter for a price of $4.27. Its quite a deal. My dealer usually charges me around 8-9$ w/tax for one of thse things.

as i have said in the past:
racer12306 wrote:its made cheaper than chinese hand tools.

there are better filters for the exact same money or even less like: Supertech, purolator premium plus and Advance Auto house brand
now, im not saying that if you put a fram on you car you will have problems, because i know thats not true. my dad only used frams for years and never had any problems with his engines. what im saying is that for the same $3.50 that you spend on a fram filter you can go get a purolator premium plus oil filter. last i knew supertech filters were pretty good filters as well and they are in the $2.00 to $3.00 range. the advance auto house brand is a purolator premium plus oil filter for $2.50. it may have slighly less filtering element but it is constructed the exact same way as a premium plus.

you forgot a filter brand...

Motorcraft Small FL-910S
Motorcraft Large FL-300

Yes they'll work and so will Motorcraft 5W-20 synthetic blend motor oil.

I'm on my 10th or so OCI with a FL-910s - motorcraft oil combo. It's also nice going to Walmart and getting the same shit for my Focus too. Keeps my garage inventory lower!

The only exception is the focus uses the FL-400S for the larger filter.

All the following specs are from the purolator website.

smaller filter
L10241 (FL-910s and Mopar 4105409AB equivalent) specs:

Specifications:
Anti-Drain Back Valve Yes
Height 3.36
O.D. 2.98
Relief Valve P.S.I. 12-15
Thread Pitch UNF-2B
Threads 3/4-16
Type of Filter Spin-on

larger filter
L14670 (FL-300 and Mopar 5281090 equivalent)
Specifications:
Anti-Drain Back Valve Yes
Height 3.75
O.D. 3.70
Relief Valve P.S.I. 8-16
Thread Pitch UNF-2B
Threads 3/4-16
Type of Filter Spin-on

Focus's larger filter:
L20195 (FL-400S equivlent)
Specifications:
Anti-Drain Back Valve Yes
Height 4.74
O.D. 2.98
Relief Valve P.S.I. 12-15
Thread Pitch UNF-2B
Threads 3/4-16
Type of Filter Spin-on

Looking at the specs if I was to run a larger filter on the neon i'd probably run a L20195 (FL-400 motorcraft equivalent). the Relief PSI has a tighter spec range. Plus its a whole INCH longer than the Mopar larger filter... of course i'd also get the PL version of the purolator filters. Just my 2 cents
help this isn't a ford and I'm lost.. :-(
