Resurrection...

I need to know the right part numbers (harness and mirror) for this setup on a 2005 SRT-4 with a sunroof. Or someone just point me to the right thread, please. I do have a VIN for an '04 R/T in case that might help me at the parts counter (they always want a VIN when looking up esoteric parts for me). Thank you!

Really? I've never given up hope of getting one of these installed in my SRT.

And what about a Stage 1 PCM like mine has? Hopefully, one of our experts will clue us in.

Do any of you know if this would plug in to my car?

I have a 2001 Chrysler Neon LX with no sunroof, but it has leather and sun visor lights (and 2 reading lights on the rearview mirror).

I think the car is more like a 2002 US because I have the 4 speed transmission.

The mirror may use the PCI Bus for the temp feature, so as long as it communicates, I think that will work. Just be sure the VT/YL wire is there.

Not sure without doing some research if the compass is part of the mirror or another module.

Thanks, I'll check it out!

At any rate, I have a few other projects higher up on the list for now. The most important being replacing the radiator and hoses BEFORE a disaster happens (I think the rad is original, don't see it being replaced on any receipts)

From what I know it will only work with a late mode 02 and up.. I could be wrong but It is controlled by the pcm.. When I programmed my 05 sxt pcm to 04 rt programing with kevin at pshyced ecus sct programmer, the mirror went nuts then it reset..

Gramps I will get back to you and let you know..

Might only be an NGC thing.

What I get from this is the compass may work in a earlier vehicle, but the thermometer may not.
COMPASS/TEMPERATURE
MIRROR
DESCRIPTION
COMPASS / TEMPERATURE MIRROR
The Compass/Temperature Mirror consists of an
electronic control module with a vacuum fluorescent
display (VFD) screen (Fig. 1), two map/reading lamps
and function switches. The electronic module displays
the outside temperature and one of eight compass
headings to indicate the direction the vehicle is
facing. The compass/temperature mirror transmits
and receives data on the PCI Data Bus Circuitry.

COMPASS
The compass is capable of self-calibrating. Refer to
the procedures later in this section of the service
manual. The compass is located within the mirror
module and can not be serviced separately.

THERMOMETER
The Compass/Temperature Mirror displays the outside
temperature using data from the NGC engine
controller on the PCI databus.
Engine temperature
can increase the displayed temperature.
OPERATION
The optional compass/temperature mirror incorporates
2 reading lamp buttons, which also function as
STEP and ZONE/CALIBRATION buttons. The
desired function is obtained by pressing and holding
a button depressed for a specific time period. The
STEP button provides the selections between English
and Metric. The Zone/Cal. button is used to change
the compass zone or calibrate the compass.
The STEP button (right reading lamp button) operates
a momentary contact switch, which is used to
toggle through the following four modes:
² Turn the right reading lamp on and off.
² To select degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius for the
temperature display (Press and Hold for 5 to 10 seconds).
² To turn display off (Press and Hold for 10 to 15
seconds).
The ZONE/CALIBRATION button (left reading
lamp button) operates a momentary contact switch,
which is used to toggle through the following two
modes:
² Turn the left reading lamp on and off.
² To actuate compass Zone/Calibration modes
(Press and Hold for 5 to 10 seconds).
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - COMPASS/
TEMPERATURE MIRROR
If the Compass/Temperature mirror lights up and
functions, however the accuracy of the information
displayed is in question or certain displays are not
working, refer to the self-diagnostic test below. If the
mirror doesn’t light up or function, proceed with the
following preliminary tests:
(1) Disconnect the compass/temperature mirror
electrical connector. Using a voltmeter, check for 12v
on the fused B+ circuit cavity. Voltage should be
present. If OK go to Step 2, If NOT OK, repair the
short or open circuit as required.
(2) Using a voltmeter, check for 12v on the fused
ignition run circuit cavity with the ignition switch in
the RUN position. Voltage should be present. If OK
go to Step 3, If NOT OK, repair the short or open circuit
as required.
(3) Key Off. Using a ohmmeter, check for continuity
to a good ground on the ground circuit cavities of
the compass/temperature mirror electrical connector.
Continuity should be present. If OK, replace the mirror
assembly, If NOT OK, repair the short or open
circuits as required.

What does "NGC" stand for (for my sake and for people who find this thread in the future)?

"Next Generation Controller", basically the PCM's used from 2003 to 2005, as far as neons are concerned. Some parts are compatible from 2000 - 2002, and some are not. The engine being one that isn't.

Most things on the PCI Bus are compatible, provided the PCM has the capability to operate it. The PCI Bus is the same "language" so those things still function. The clusters for example.

If the pre 2003 PCM's do not have the ability to pass the ambient temp info along the PCI Bus, the temp function of the mirror will not work in the car.

All I know is that the 2002 Service Manual that I got years ago mentions a "sender" (I don't know what else to call it without getting the manual and I'm too lazy right now) that is attached somewhere near the radiator that transmits outside temperature data to the mirror. What I'm wondering is if the Stage 1 PCM that I have on my 2005 SRT will allow the mirror to function without the "sender". Or am I confusing the PCM with another kind of vehicle computer? :tardbang:

The sender you refer to is a temperature probe.. its the same type that would be near your stock airbox. The one that the mirror uses would be mounted near the driver side of the radiator.. I cant tell you if the srt has this or not.. I can't why it wouldn't..

It doesn't so I would have to mock up a mounting point for it.

I found a nice '04 R/T with leather  and the compass/temperature mirror on autotrader.com and took the VIN to the dealership this morning. I got a part number of 5008648AD with a list of $415 so I don't think that I'll be buying a new one anytime soon, darn it.

I'm fairly certain you wouldn't. It goes down near the bottom of the radiator on the core support. There should be a hole drilled there and the sensor attaches to a plastic clip with a christmas tree fastener type prong which pushes into the core support. See the image below to see what I mean.

I appreciate that. Actually, searching on autotrader for a suitable VIN helped me to find the R/T with the leather goodies (I'm so used to seeing BUX Neons equipped that way on ebay.uk, but seeing a domestic Neon like that got my heartbeat to speed up :D ).

So the conclusion is that on an SRT the temp will NOT work since the PCM needs to support it?

Pretty sure, that wasn't the conclusion.. In fact people are running these on SRTs. JeffM added one for sure. However I take back my previous comment about the holes probably being on the core support to mount the sensor. That is where the intercooler piping passes through, so it's most likely not there. no big deal. Check this out as well

PM'd JeffM and he said his mirror was from a Saturn. I'm leaning more toward this was the conclusion now as far as getting an OEM R/T mirror to work in an SRT :/

most of these mirrors are pretty much the same. Even the factory ones are manufactured by Gentex I believe. PM caraudioholic24 he may know more.

I think I rather have the Stratus mirror so I can have the Homelink feature. the LED's behind the glass might be able to be switched to green to color match the Neon - OR perhaps the Chrysler Sebring is green?

From reading it really seems like the PCM needs to support the R/T mirror and the SRT's does not. I could probably rig a mirror up running my own wires but my goal is to keep this car ridiculously clean so for me if it's not an OEM mirror and I can't buy/use an OEM wire harness I will not bother.

I'm just curious where you got that from, because all I see is that the PCI bus must be able to pss the temperature over it which the srt should be able to
