Part Number Request: Neon only STS (Not SRT version)
Part Number Request: Neon only STS (Not SRT version)
Want to Buy - I am looking for the part number for the Neon only STS. I don't want the version for the SRT-4 but the one that works with the stock Neon shift knob. I know it exists because I already have one in my 02 ACR. Looking to locate another one and a part # would be very helpful.

4668261AC is the only oem shifter listed for non SRT. Aftermarket would be the only option that would be there.
And whether or not there is one that fits the oem knob (other than Maddog), you will have to wait for someone else to chime in.

I wonder if that is the same unit used for the 1GN cars? What years does it list as applicable to? and price?occasional demons wrote:4668261AC is the only oem shifter listed for non SRT. Aftermarket would be the only option that would be there.

They are obviously not the same part. The one that you posted is a MP part. The one I posted is the standard replacement.
I would just exchange the current one for one of Maddog's.
Your stock knob will fit if you specify that's what you want.

This is for a SCCA Club Racing car running in Showroom Stock C. I have another 02 ACR and it has the non SRT (regular Neon) short throw with the stock knob. The shifter is just like the SRT one with the spacer plate but has the rod to accomdate the leather wrapped shift knob and OEM boot.Danteneon wrote:Wow...$220.00 more for the stock knob to fit? I know you are trying to keep a stock apearance, but damn!
I'm thinking they took a mopar sts apart and used the spacer in a regular neon shifter

before the srt4 came out ('02 and earlier) the mopar short throw was made to use the stock knob/spring set up of the r/t (or base model, obviously) like the one on your acr. i'm not sure if they make that style anymore though. if you can find one i'm sure it'll be overpriced. i'd just get the maddog, he gives you a choice in throw reduction and a bunch of other options, it'd be cheaper too.... and it will still look stock
Official "I'm Going to Drive My Neon till it Dies" Club #000004... or not..
I agree completely and I will investigate that option as well. Maybe someone out there still has one of the 02 and earlier Mopar STS versions hanging around. That would be better posted in the WTB section. If anyone has an older MP catalog that has the old PN for it, it may help in a web search. Prolly not, but it wouldn't hurt. Unfortunately, the "P" numbers are not included in the regular parts books.
I'd bet that even if you had the correct PN, the chances of there being one still in stock somewhere will be slim, but you never know...
This might eventually get you a pn if no one has an '00 - '02 MP Catalog: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_kw=mopar&_ ... kw=catalog

couldn't you just drill a hole through the shaft of the SRT STS for the roll pin, then put the spring over it and use the stock shift knob?

That isn't a bad idea!!! I have a spare SRT STS I could modify for this purpose. You are correct in identifying this as the only real difference between the two units. Outstanding suggestion!sidepipe87 wrote:couldn't you just drill a hole through the shaft of the SRT STS for the roll pin, then put the spring over it and use the stock shift knob?

I just took my stock shifter out to throw in an SRT shifter, and that was the only difference other than the cut out on the top of the SRT shifter for the ball. I guess you'd just have to measure down to the roll pin and drill a hole in the same location on the SRT STS. In theory, it should work.

or do the suggestion i said earlier ^^^ and save yourself the drilling. All you have to do is swap over the spacer block as far as i knowr/tguy02 wrote:I'm thinking they took a mopar sts apart and used the spacer in a regular neon shifter
