Carlisle 2014 - Steven Greer Memorial Award

Post by Spanky » Wed Feb 19, 2014 10:17 am

As some know,Last sunday my wife and I purchased SLAWs neon and with it came a set of Steven Greers old wheels. This gave us the idea for two things. The first is to raffle of sell the wheels online here or at Carlisle and all the money is going to go directly to stevens parents.

The second is, I talked with Jason Day about doing an award in Stevens Name. This award is going to be custom fabricated out of old motor parts from 2gn Neons and also display a photo of Stevens car. The award will be given out with the other awards with a special presentation.

I know lots of you have no idea who i am but i have been around for awhile and i personally did not know steven but i know how it is to loose a beloved friend and honoring him the way i know how to.The award will be revealed at carlisle on saturday when i arrive.

Its actually not going to be chosen per catagory. The award will be given chosen by some of stevens closer friends from the years. Anyone could be chosen.

You should make a trophy and hand it out to one winner a year. So at the next Carlisle next year the same trophy is passed to the next winner, Like a memorial trophy that one person keeps for a year and then is re-given out each year. Maybe each year a placard can be added for each winner, each year

I guess I'm a little confused as to the criteria for judging? Don't we already vote on the car we like best as a group? Now you're just having a smaller group vote? I.... I don't get it. Maybe I'm insensitive.

I don't understand him either. If your going to do something for someone Alright but having an award based only on people who closely knew him.. Seems dumb.

Its not for just the people that knew him. Its for the whole group. The people that going to choose who out of the whole group are the ones that were close with Steven. Feel free to pm me with any more questions.

This award isn't for completion or who's car is nicest. Its a speciality/fun award honoring one that as passed. Realistically I could let my 16 month old son choose.

Feel Free to pm me with anything.

in my opinion, if anyone knew steven i think the award would go to whichever car was slammed the most, or more stanced.....
but i think we all know who would win that award year after year lol

I never knew Steven, and due to geography, never been to Carlisle ... the big event down here is "Cruisin the Coast" in October...

However: my "two cents" - I like this concept of his closest friends picking out a recipient for the memorial award -
let them discuss the various candidates when everyone is already present at Carlisle !!!

None of this thread really makes any sense to me at all, but ok... We're going to honor a deceased member by giving out an arbitrary award to someone just chosen at random without reason? (having a baby vote sure implies this). I'm all for paying your respects, this just seems too forced and doesn't make much sense but that's just my $0.02 the powers that be will handle this how they see fit.

I think if we did an award in honor of Steven, it should be wheels/suspension setup since that's what he loved when he had his neon.

Then everyone go around voting on rides with that sort of thinking in mind (during the same time we vote on all other categories during TMI). Winner get's the award in honor of Steven.

^^That sounds like a good idea.

My 4X4 stance would keep me from ever winning though.

I'm sorry that its confusing for you sidepipe87.

Over the next couple months myself and the powers that be will discuss the way this award will be presented. As far as this thread its just hear to discuss different ideas and to let it be known that at this years Carlisle there will be a memorial award in his name.

Again I'm sorry for any confusion on this.

Just an update for everyone asking about how this award will be judged. We got into contact with Stevens parents and they ate going to come to Carlisle and hang out with us and choose the car. They will present the award to whom they choose.

The award is finished and I'll get up with Jason but I'll have it at my car at the hotel. Stevens father was coming to present the award last I heard but nothing has been 100% confirmed yet.

We decided it was only right to give the award to Steven's family.

That seems to make sense.

I don't know how his family feels, on one hand having a yearly thing in his honor is great, but it also may bring back tough memories too.
