Jamestown, RI coastline

Post by LilSparkPlug » Sat Aug 30, 2008 9:54 pm

Rhode Island though small, is gorgeous. Here's some of the shots I took yesterday when a friend and I scaled down 150 foot granite cliffs to get to the water's edge. These were taken in a few different places. Six to be exact.

We started up here:

in before the leg humpers

Coast line of Rhode Island is alot different than the coast lines down here. Some of those rocks would be considered the tallest "Mountain" here in Florida.

Very true Mox, though I have never seen your coastline I would love to. There are some areas of RI that are much rockier than that also. It was so breathtaking.

Thanks Sean :)

looks like this on the Gulf Side. The Riverside is filled with Mangroves, Marinas, and Highrises like my sig, and to the south its all swap.

RI looks nice along the water, I just couldn't deal with the Winters.

Thats funny, I couldn't deal with the heat of the summer in FL. Or all the storms/rain. I'd be in the back of an ambulance!! The winters here aren't all that bad, they could be far worse! FL's coast is pretty though....for sure.

When I come back to RI, we're gonna have to go there, as well as the rest of the state. Next trip will be more than just a day :)

That makes me really excited to go to Providence this fall/winter! The drive was so awesome. And Providence was probably my favorite city I've ever been too. Which Nikon do you have? D60?

I wish there was a New England 2GN meet, or something closer than NJ. Thats still around 5 hours for me.

Anthony: Its a D40 and I'm still learning on it, I took some more shots today I'll post them in another thread. You need to let me know when you're coming to Providence, we shall do a photoshoot somewhere if you have a spare hour.

In the 3yrs I lived in RI, I never made it down to that part of the coast. Next time we're (family) out that way visiting the wife's family (she was born and raised in Covnetry), I'll insist that we get down that way to check out the scenery.
Also, seeing the Newport Bridge from those angles really shows the height. Just before you reach the apex of the arc, it seems as though the the bridge just ends in midair. Kinda freaky the first few times going over
On a side note, the bridge from the mainland-Texas to Galveston Island will give you the same feeling.

I've been to Jamestown before just never really explored it. I'd like to go back again and get some more shots, its gorgeous on that island. I don't really like driving over bridges, they freak me out.....especially since a bunch of the ones in RI are in less than stable condition lol.

You wouldn't want to rent in Jamestown it would be way too expensive. Then again RI is the most expensive state to live in, by far. But its gorgeous here, and I love it. You could rent anywhere in RI and still be able to get to Jamestown in like 40 minutes or so.

Maddog's home state of WI.has some Awesome scenery.

Two of my favorite places would be the South Kettle Moraine, and High Cliffs State Park .....
High Cliffs has some nice bluffs overlooking Lake Winnebago, maybe 50-100 feet high.
Oh, and I shouldn't forget Devil's Lake !!

One area that is overlooked are the bluffs overlooking the Missisippi River, from the WI.side, at Perrot State Park.
The bluffs overlooking the river are HUGE. You can stand up there and look down at MN. on the other side.
Wish I had some pics of that.

That abandoned POW fort looks like a pretty cool place to explore, aside from the awesome scenery.

It is an awesome place to explore but we forgot our flashlight in the car, and I wasn't prepared (dress wise) to go trailblazing. Next time....I will be.

No pictures of said areas Nickko?

I think it was also used for costal defense in WWII - notice the circular gun emplacement in the first fort pic.

SparkPlug, any history on that old fort? Name, location from main road, etc?

Chuck doesn't allow Nick to take pics... or even keep his head above the windowline when they're in the car together, otherwise he'd probably have pics.

And Crystal... Chuck is a bigger perv/freak than I am, be careful! :p

I'm a respectful perv - notice that I didn't do any leghumping. Hell, a lady like Crystal demands respect simply due to her knowledge of vehicles, Mopars specifically.

Actually, Ohio does have some beautiful scenery, especially in the Ohio River Valley. I've spent plenty of time there, mostly in the Marietta area.

And Nick, thanks for coming to my defense.

Every state has beautiful scenery in it, it just needs to be discovered. In RI since we are so small, its not all that far away, but in some larger states you may have to travel for a bit. Damn thats alot of corn!!! Corn on the cob is wicked good though! :) mmmm

And thanks Chuck :)

Corn on the cob? Amazing just plain. Then again I have celiac so I'm partial to plain things its all I can eat! Ha ha! Farmland can still be pretty even though you grow up around it. At least I would think so.
