My New Toy!

Well it's not really NEW NEW since I bought it used from a friend of mine that had it less than a month, but it's somewhat new for me. I picked it up back in late October or so...

It's by far not a powerful bike, obviously, but it good enough for me right now. I used to ride about 6-7 years ago and wanted to start up again for awhile now but wanted to get more experience under my belt before I went with a bigger bike. So far in the time I've had it I've put over 1,000 miles on it. I haven't been able to ride it lately though since it's been cold as balls out being below or very close to freezing in the morning. I rode when it was 40F in the morning but I'm drawling the line there.

Nice. I've been debating on putting some money towards a bike or just continue saving towards a house.

Nice toy! I'd love to get a bike, but that would take money away from the car....and I can't bring myself to do that! Good luck with it, ride safe! And its been in the 20s here overnight so I feel you.

 Sorry, I'm new here...

Yah spending the money on the bike was a little tough to do but after it was done and I rode it for a week I was having a blast. Picked up a new jacket and helmet since my helmet was well... old, heavy and liner falling apart. Not to mention loud. I'm still acquiring gear which is priority as opposed to modding the bike since I would rather not have the risk of going down and end up having skin from my ass grafted to my face. The only modification to the bike has been a brake light modulator so it blinks when 4-5 times then goes solid when I apply it. Modding is in my blood but I'm trying to not do it to the bike all that much since I don't plan to keep the bike a long time and buy a larger one in a year or so.

But then we would be able to call you assface and it would be completely true.

and don't worry, not everyone picks up this new fangled internet thingy right away.

nice little bike...I rode one for a few years back in the day. They will get up to about 110 mph if you try. They also get good mpg

Cool bike, Jas!

I've been wanting a "beater" bike since the gas crunch hit (for to and from work), but, with the weather getting cold, and gas down under $2, it's not so much an issue, now.

If I had a bike like yours, I would probably kill myself on it...

they will go faster then that! i had my 07 at 120. granted you will need about 1 1/2 miles of straight away to get it there..

why are you only gettin 62 mpg? you are running 93 octane in it rt? i was gettin btwn 70-75 mpg on my 07 and from what i can tell they only changed the looks of the bike. I dont think, k&n filter, 43 tooth sprocket, muzzy exhuast . would make me get that big of a diff. in mpg . and i beat the shit out of that bike. i know its not that fast but mine would do 100 mph 1/4 mile i think its fast for a 250 just my .02

The one I was on was a 01 so they might have done a few things to help it out...my 110 runs were on about a 1 mile stretch...maybe if I had more room?....

I think I remember my fiances dad telling me that they changed a few other things so it gets a little less mileage than it used to.

Just have to know your limits and know the limits of the bike. With gas starting to climb back up cent by cent I can't wait for warmer weather to get here so I can start riding it to work everyday.

 So a pre-08 Ninja 250 then lol. They're fairly cheap and can be had for about a grand from the prices I've seen. :-?

To be honest I wasn't either the first time I saw it but it really grows on you and I really like it now. It's easy to spot on the road so it's less likely for someone to cut me off and say "I just didn't see him there."

Dunno, just getting 62 usually but I haven't checked it recently since I hadn't ridden it a ton. They did change the engine, how much though I'm not sure but I have heard they changed cams, valves, and tranny... again, not sure how much though. :-? It is a little surprising for a 250 though I'll say that... I mean it's not a bat out of hell but it has more pickup than I thought it would in the higher RPMs and does 75mph pretty well.

If I got another bike, that would have been the one to re-learn on. Perfect choice J.

Buy the good gear and be safe dude.

Yeah man. If I got a bike it would have to be a liiiitle larger, since I'm a heavy guy. But, that's a great bike to learn on mang.

Thanks Grambo! Yeah right now I've got a SHOEI RF-1000 helmet, Scorpion All-In jacket, and ICON Recon pants. Still looking for some boots and gloves that I like and are comfortable.

 Yeah sometimes I do feel big on it but other times I feel fine. I'd like to get a different rear set but again... don't really plan on keeping it for a long time so I don't want to put any money into any mods.
