Too much money? That's only about $400 worth of HDs if you shop right.

I vote small server. I need to get that exact set-up to replace the 4x 1TB HDs in my drobo.... alas, I'm cheap and waiting for 2TB hds to go even lower.

I wish i had to much money... trying to build a blu-ray server for the house that me and the g/f are getting. Probably only 4tb are going to be used as it will be setup as raid.

Those HDDs cost me $440 shipped to my door. Just have to build a barebone PC right now so the HDDs will have a home to go into.

$440 to drop on some hard drives is too much money if you ask me.

if you're doing full blu-ray rips, that's about 30-50GB a movie. if you're doing just the movie, no extras at 1080p, you're at 12-18gb.

4TB fills up faster than you'd realize at that pace haha.

Personally, I love my Drobo. unless 2 of my HDs take a shit at the EXACT SAME time, I'm safe. I can hot-swap out any of the 4 drives, etc. Pretty sweet.

Opi...

I know that 4tb will fill up quite fast especially if i can take my HDDs over my friends house and copy over all the blu-ray that he has. It will save me a lot of time.

I also have another 1.5tb on another NAS box that has about 600gb free and can use that for blu-ray storage.

sidepipe87...

Not sure what RAID setup i will be doing. I may not even do one. I may just do JBOD instead. With doing that I won't have the security of drive mirroring but will have a lot more space to use.
