2004 Dodge Neon SRT-4 - nearly bone stock, and only 40,500 miles!?

Aftermarket Mods:
-Blue turn signals
-Bass Speakers
-Window Tint

Lookie, Lookie!

obviously i would talk them down with the price since i had a few
things to complain about:

-the suspension makes a sort of light knocking sound over bumps
or when i turn the wheel a little
-the driver side door makes a lot of noise even when only going like
40 mph, possibly just crappy whether stripping
-back bumper is scratched a little, but not too badly
-the guy at the dealer said the car HAS been repainted, but its
original color was silver, and it now sits as silver. not sure what
was painted though...
-it doesn't go 170mph..

Carfax shows:

No accident/ damage reported
1 - Owner vehicle
1 Service record avaialbe
Personal Vehicle
32,290 last reported odometer reading

Year purchased: 2004
Type of owner: Personal
Extimated length of ownership: 7 yrs 1 mo
Owned in the following states: Nevada

No issues reported to:
total loss, structural / frame damage, airbag deployment, odometer
rollback, accident / damage, manufacturer recall.

steering and suspension was checked at 22,728 miles
passed emissions inspection at 32,290 miles

its so purtyyyy and because its silver i wont get baked like a potato
during the hot summers in las vegas.. but 40k miles??

Kyle - way to piss on my parade..

Jeff - i could go snap some. i still have a few questions to ask, but
from what i saw, the only thing aftermarket under the hood was
the battery

Jorge - i peek back at that thread every once in a while too. hell i
wouldn't even want to sell it if it were mine lol.

Adam - thats what i have planned as well

few things on my part to consider:

- this made me "lol".. insurance difference: $2 more every 6 months..
- white > black > silver (IMO)
- i'd probably have to go back into debt :(
- less gas mpg
- i would have to sell my black sxt, aka my first car..
- i can haz boost + BOV <3
- srt interior ftw.

maybe its not the year's best find, but i think i know the previous
owner, who was like 60 years old (if not older), so i believe the car
has been well taken care of and not pushed too hard. im going to
try to talk the dealership down to about $6,000-$7,000, otherwise
im taking my money elsewhere. im in no rush to buy the car, but
i haven't looked much and this really caught my attention.

Recently saw something like this too bro.

Insurance aint bad, but repairs on these things can eat your wallet. Plus youll be making payments if i read it correctly.

I believe JeffM said to me when i found one of these, "Swap Your Neon & Call It a Day."

My 2 Cents... Short term, WIN. Long Term, Fail. :(

That exhaust isn't stock I'll say that much.

well, i guess lets make this a poll.

my options are to keep my car and continue to modify and repair it,
or replace my car with the srt and only do a few things to it like
removing the spoiler, lowering it, and adding some eyelids, OR wait
for a similar/better deal on a stone white srt?

Can you afford the SRT? That's the main question. If you can afford it with what you make now comfortably without strapping yourself then that's an option. Otherwise, start putting extra cash aside for a down payment on one and continue driving your SXT payment free.

easily. i would only have to take out a loan for about $1000 and i
could have that payed of in a few months and the only difference in
cost would be insurance which is only $2 more every 6 months, and
gas cost which is no problem. i'd still have practically the same funds
for mods and everything.

Then snag it, but the exhaust isn't stock so it's safe to say something else was touched at a given time. If you only need a loan for a grand, I would get it.

If you can afford it do it. Don't pay 10k though. They're going for 5-8k now a days.

i'm going to talk to them today to see how low they're willing to go,
and im going to pick out every flaw lol. i'll snap some engine pics
and i'm going to check a few other things out like leaks and another
peek at the exhaust. i had a feeling it wasn't stock because it looked
a bit different and it even sounded a little quieter.

in the mean time, i have to wrap up a few projects on my car and
get it sold :(

im hoping to get 6-7k from it if i sell it as is. i was debating keeping
my wheels and tires/lip kit/stereo but i think i'll just include that all
in the selling price lol

Errrrm....yeah. Don't get your hopes up on that price. Good luck, look over the car with a fine-tooth comb or even bring someone along who knows more about SRTs. The last thing you'd want is to take possession of the car and not know there is some underlying problem with it. I brought Crystal along with me when looking at my SRT and it helped a lot.

If I remember correctly, that was because you weren't sure if you would have been able to afford it in the long run. If he can afford the maintenance, insurance (which his only goes up $2), loan ($1k loan), and extra gas then by all means go for it. 40k is by no means a 'super low miles' car and eventually he will come up to the regular maintenance schedules; and depending on how he goes about working on the car it is by no means 'neon' money.

Jeff - the dealer just offered me 6k for my car today lolz. im not
going to buy the car if i have to take out a loan any higher than
2k. if i don't get the car, so be it. theres plenty other srts in the sea
and possibly one being white <3. i took the srt for another drive
today and im definitely getting more comfortable in it! the car isnt
as hot since its silver and mine is black, so the sun makes my sxt
an oven.. they also said the car has been on the lot for a week now
and nobody has shown any interest yet. i wish they would park it
in the back so nobody could see it

pictures as promised:

i should have gotten pictures of the exhaust because i took
another look and they most definitely arent stock :tardbang:

the car is so clean its hard to believe.. theres no visible damage to
the interior, like 3-4 tiny chips on the hood from rocks (damn semis),
one rim has curb rash, and its fast

keep the SXT and live to see the end of the world in 2012

Under hood area looks pretty stock other than the blue wire loom. Everything seems to be in order. It is however an 04 built in 03 and those plug wires need to go as well as the cowl panel weatherstripping needing to be fixed.

If that's the case he should ask if he can just buy the wing and strap it to his body.

Crystal- I'm not even going to ask how you know all this just by looking at it, but
you sound like you know what you're talking about! Haha

I still can't say whether I can get the srt or not, so I guess I'll just keep that to
myself until I have a solid answer.. So until then, I'm keeping everything a secret....

Damn secrets, those are the original 03 plug wires too which is why I said they would have to leave the premises.

Mine slips off like that all of the time and in the same place- just slip it back onto the pinch weld (that is a pinch weld, right? :tardbang: ).

by LilSparkPlug
It has metal runners in it just like the door weather stripping, you can pinch them closer together and it should help it stay in place :)

secrets are fun though \:D/

whats funny is that i don't think i've EVER seen a stock air box in an srt..
i only knew what it was cuz i have the same space hogger in my sxt

Posted: Wed May 25, 2011 4:01 pm
by JeffM
I love the stock airbox. It covers up the rats nest of wires and vacuum lines underneath it.

Posted: Wed May 25, 2011 9:14 pm
by LilSparkPlug
That's why you hide the nest when you take it out. Jeff's car has a stock box too

well, theres a few more things to consider.. which may also help when
it comes to talking the price down, if i decide to get the car.

they say its been repainted, and the reason for that according to them
was because the previous owner just wanted a fresh coat of paint after
the sun rotted the original paint, but the front two doors need alignment
because the tops don't hug the car like they should.. my mom says the
car has most likely been wrecked, but carfax shows nothing..

i don't believe its been wrecked because its nearly flawless, but hell, its
a good enough excuse to talk the price down a bit more
