Disappointment, neon 2.0 style...

Post by Marcel » Sun Aug 28, 2011 6:05 pm

Having an Iceman, 60mm TB, performance exhaust header, megan racing cat converter, MPx UDP and non-stock muffler and still only putting down 120 hp on the front wheels.. :(

This is why we tell people not to expect much on an N/A build.

At least you're putting down stock numbers. My old neon would have been happy to probably see 90hp.

^Yes...i was very much disappointed in hearing that 2.0 SOHC cant be built with ez as some others..but i cant deny the fact that my ATX has been with me thick and thin. Thats why im making a reliable DD...then gunna mod a beast in a different car..future talk though. I guess all n all..you just gotta love your neon. lol

Sounds about right for a decent running engine with bolt ons. I imagine mine probably does about the same, maybe a hair better with the 3.94 and billet flywheel.

so true!! :D

Anyway, still have some things in store, including a decent muffler and a software upgrade. Hope to gain some low-end torque and overall better performance. But at the moment i am kind of fallen of my cloud. :P

I know how you feel. I've got all sorts of bolt on mods on my car too, and it still drives as slow as when it's all stock.

I've found better butt-dyno gains from weight reduction and drivetrain mods. Bolt ons don't make peak power as much as they help the powerband, so you don't feel it as much nor see it on paper. Most CAI's are only good for 1-2hp total, but could see as much as 7-8hp in the midrange, which is where these engines sing stock (3-5k rpm). Thus, it seems like the power falls of more noticeably after 6k rpm with bolt ons, making the car appear slow still. Does that make sense?

I wonder what you would have put down bone stock..

it's totally awesome actually. Installation was a piece of cake and i noticed serious torque gain in the low end. And of course the sound  :D
