post #429 ... directed to me ... I think that both the Caliber and the Dart are "pieces of shit"

In other words, I misused his quote

"This is just an awful car." Keep in mind this is only truly relevant to its at-the-limit handling. "It is completely uncomposed and sloppy. It doesn't do anything well out there." After trying it myself, I was forced to agree. Good spring, damper, and bushing selection has made for a very composed ride on the road, but when pushed harder, the Dart falters.
Hard cornering results in sailboat levels of body roll and it gets exponentially worse as speed and cornering forces build. It behaves like an over-lowered tuner car. Not only does it roll excessively, but the lateral movement of the body is extreme as well. Because of the low roll center, the roll results in more lateral movement, which means the car's center of gravity moves even further toward the outside, in turn making the inside tires that much less effective. Small mid-corner bumps cause even more grief because of the exaggerated amount of body movement. Again, this is mostly in high-performance handling, but if you buy this car expecting to hit the auto-X course like so many Neon buyers did, this will be very important to you.

Just as I thought power to weight ratio and trying to make this thing a comfortable car has comprimised everything I loved about my neon. Its no longer nice and nimble and quick. Now the thing accelerates and handles worse than my dad's 2500 ram. Unless the SRT model is different this review is enough to keep me out of the market for one of these.

That's funny, this article is the opposite. the "performance drivers perspective" is written buy a neon enthusiast. He seems to think very highly of it

The heat & complexity of a turbocharged engine is poorly suited for an underpowered "daily driver". There are better cars available for the same money.
I prefer the Dodge Avenger SE V6: It's bigger, more powerful (283 hp), more comfortable, and gets approx. 30 mpg on the highway for $22,490.

The last small Dodge I drove was a Neon SRT4; the Neon was a rocket. In terms of everything but fun-to-drive, the Dart is light-years ahead. The cars we were driving were practically-hand-built pre-production vehicles and, as such, had some minor issues with fit that should be corrected before actual production begins, but even so, the cars we drove had a higher quality feel, especially the interiors.

Ugh. 16.2@84 with the 6 speed and 1.4 turbo. That's depressing, back to stock 2gn times. I'm sure the 2.4 will be better but at the cost of gas mileage.

So many neons so little time.

I got bored and went up there myself, again.
Looks awesome in Citrus Peel.
EDIT, a hawkeyed member from another forum pointed out this might actually be an R/T based on the rims! I also see larger front rotors!

Wait... whaa?? That's exactly a stock 2gn time! I'm pretty sure that Frank actually ran faster than that with his 05! Totally stock, plus he's no small human being (no offense Frank, you know I'm in the same boat, but it matters in the quarter mile whether we want to admit it or not, haha)

I did a new car check on an SXT at work the other day. it was a 2.0l atx...OMG that car is so boring. and only the r/t and srt models will have the trackbar lighting standard! worst part is the lights are wired for it so chrysler is probably gonna charge the customers to have their BCM flashed so that the trunk lights actually light up. boo chrysler boo.

GREEAAAT, Now I'm wondering if I should get one....
1 - In our shop right now, 1 week old Dart Limited w/ 1.4 Turbo = Needs new oil filter housing as the oil cooler gasket blew out and sprayed the entire undercarriage of the vehicle with motor oil. Chrysler has a restriction on the oil filter adapter housing already!. Almost looks like the oil cooler is not machined properly causing the gasket to leak, of coure no reply back from STAR on what the problem is,
2 - Local dealer 20min away = New Dart with rear main seal leaking engine oil....
What the F...

If and when I do replace the neon, I was already looking at the Avenger.

Drove my neon until it was killed in a flood.

They are pictures I snapped at the plant the other day. Just the two I thought you guys would like the most.
Not sure if I really like the body color coordination of the Citrus Peel.

I saw a blue Dart at the Monticello, IN dealership during a drive-by this afternoon while on the job.

Stared so hard that I almost hit an oncoming car.

That's exactly what I told myself to talk me out of a 1.4t model when I was looking for something new.
Then I bought something with a first production run motor...

^^Thanks, I was too lazy to visit dodge.com/dart to get the correct color name.
MyNeonSaysHi wrote:Retarded to get a car first model year. Wait til they work the kinks out.
Not always true- my 1GN was built and shipped in March of 1994 after I ordered it (first one sold at the dealership) and nothing was wrong other than the rear lap belts were installed upside down

and the battery went dead after a few weeks (both were warranty items that were just a nuisance and easily fixed). Original head gasket was still good after 100K miles.
