I had my car dynoed this past weekend so I could get a stock baseline. I have 0 performance mods on it. The owner was like "damn its been a long time since we had a car on here with a stock exhaust". Ended up with lower than expected numbers (for me atleast) on the mustang dyno. They guys setting up the dyno said that stock evos tend to run 205-225whp. I was atleast at the top end of that at 225. The stock fuel curve is stupid rich averaging 11.2 a/f. The worste news that I found out at the dyno was that my stock trans is only good for 350whp. They told me the best use for an MR 6spd trans is a boat anchor . So my plans are shaped around my weaklink since I don't want to go to the stronger 5spd trans.
Future Plans:
Performance- Headers, o2 housing, Tomei titanium cat-back, cat delete or hi-flow, lower ic piping, mild cams w/ti retainers, drop in filter, boost controller, and a tune.
Suspension- Front and Rear Sways, performance pads, slotted rotors, enkei pf01rs, donlup D ZI tires (the D Star replacments).

yeah its about a 13-15% drive train loss and the mustang dynos tend to read lower than dynojets. I think its supposed to be around 286hp to the crank. The guys said it was actually a bit higher than what they were expencting. I saw a few other baselines they did and they were in that ballpark.

getting ready for another dyno again. Parts installed: ported exhaust manifold, Meagan o2 housing, down pipe, perrin hfc, JIC magic full titanium cat back, ETS lower IC piping, GSC springs, GSC ti retainers, and GSC S2 cams (needed a timing belt anyway ). Still stock boost settings.

The week before I took my car for a dyno tune I ran my car on the quarter mile with my friend's at an annual track rental we go to.
Cars we brought: Turbo civic B20vt hatch, Turbo civic b18 hatch, Challenger SRT8, and my EVO IX MR.
Of course all my friends wanted a go at me. I ended up beating all of them even the SRT8. My best time of the day was a 12.91 @ 105mph
Running stock boost ~18.5 psi and untuned since the cam install
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paMOlR-9nYY
Last friday I brought the car to Dynotech Tuning in MA. They specialize in EVOs and SRTs.
Dyno tune results:
(we tested to see if the stock airbox was holding me back. The dotted line is with the airbox open and filter removed)
(find the mod under the hood )
yup thats the only visible mod a hallman MBC.
Its hard to tell from the picture but the a/f is so much better than stock. The stock map is stupid rich and you loose quite a bit of hp from it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1PHo3FdPXU
Now the real cool goodies:
I had them add a drag tune in and a "no lift shift feature" so that i can power shift without over-revving and sustain at least 13psi of boost between shifts.
1st to 2nd shift shows how low the boost normally falls between shifts (in fact it goes to vacuum).
This alone is going help me at the track! Never mind the fact that they tuned me at about 26psi!

Sweet. Stock clutch?
Very good numbers to all 4 wheels! You need e85!
Clutches are a PITA and hard to install on those things.I had them add a drag tune in and a "no lift shift feature" so that i can power shift without over-revving and sustain at least 13psi of boost between shifts.

Yeah still the stock clutch. only 48K on it but it will be toast soon. Not only are they really hard to replace the clutch itself (the good ones) go for around $1400. I am hoping to have it last another year at least.
As for E85 there is only one station in all of CT that I am aware of. They are spotty in MA but in any case they are way too far away for me to conisder going off pump gas. Honestly it would be easier to use 100octane.
there is still tons of room for improvement. I will be getting a CAI, FMIC, and a cat delete. at that poin that will be about the maximum hp I will see. I really don't want to get into a new turbo or a strocker kit. Its just too expensive and reliablilty will start to suffer.
Its nice going to the track and not breaking anything.

the Mods and dyno tune paid off. dropped to a 12.41 from a 13.6 bone stock, and a 12.91 un-tuned.

My fastest trap of the day was 110mph but this run was 12.41@109.22
apparently the track is at 600' above sea level.
It was windy with 40-50 degree temps.
It was a track rental day so it was a very cool atmosphere. It was supposed to be a DSM meet but there were only 2 DSM cars there lol. Mostly had GM cars there including a 2014 vette, A few GTRs It was a fun day. They had to take one lane down cuz of someone blowing a t-case and still ran one lane all afternoon. that was pretty cool.

My best friend has a 04 Evo RS, he had an fp red, stage 3 quaife diff, shep built trans, exedy triple disc clutch, 272 cams, and QT slicks on RX7 wheels for this run. I believe he pulled 590hp on the mustang dyno with this setup.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XGRSpbpOJs
I added a soundtrack to make it more enjoyable, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tRcwlNGl74
Since then he got a fully built buschur 2.0 with a fp black, billet input transmission shaft, lightweight drive shaft, and upgraded cams that I'm unsure of. Haven't been to the track since then but it's probably closer to mid 9's or high 8's with the current setup. This thread seemed appropriate since you're an evo fan.
This is the car that the engine came out of, fastest stock interior evo at the time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9h7IPtA_cY

That's great times man, I always loved the advantage that AWD has. What was your 60' on that run?
So many neons so little time.

Yeah they call it the ego killer at dyno tech. Getting on the dyno bone stock I was like what.. 225whp? I would totally go for big power but for me having a 6spd, its so expensive to go big. I'll only need a re-tune, a CAI & cat delete to get near 11seconds in the quarter. That's more than enough for me.Donkeypuncher wrote:Yeah, you lose a lot when you can't hear the natural sound of the engine.
Those mustang dynos are notorious for giving low numbers, there was a 50hp difference with one car they were testing.
Here are the slips:
The quicker time was also done in my car but I can't give myself credit cuz my friend was driving. he's well known in the evo community Raif (RRT). He brought his 8 second talon but he snapped an axel so I let him try and beat my time. His evo did a 9.5 1/4 with A/C still in the car last year at the dsm shoot out. His car is featured in DSPORT in last month's magazine.
that's him showing me how it's done:

And this was the reason I had a good time and traction my first run. (I had a big boost leak so I had no boost of the line). The clamp totally failed this run (I totally thought I broke the trans):

I left early yesterday so I didn't get to check the results. I apparently won my class. best of 3 cars but it was against an STI and 911 turbo so I am pretty happy. I guess I will have to invest in some suspension parts to stay competitive next year .

I usually don't run with CARTCT in hartford because the lots are relativly small and tracks are slow but, this event funded the wounded worriors charity so I gave it a shot. The course was relativly fast for how small the lot was. It was quite technical and took me some time to realize i just needed to slow down. you can see I am fighting the tires the whole time:

I have a few new mods to bring to the table this year. I got GTWORX springs specially designed for the bilstien shocks, a 24mm adjustable rear swaybar, and Michelin pilot super sport tires to help put all the power down.
I am regretting how soft the sidewalls are with my tire choice but the grip is certainly there. With some alignment adjustments I should be even better. I just learned i can get -2 degree neg. camber up front with the stock adjustable and marked crash bolts so that should change things up a bit.
Obviously I wasn't too bad behind the wheel even though many things needed to me ironed out. I ended up with a first place win in my class.

Finally cashed in on my bday gift from my gf and aunt from last year. They paid for a track day at limerock park for me.
It rained for the first two sessions but it was awesome because I go to learn how to drive around 100mph in the rain
