Are there any more A/C components taking up space and weight inside the dash or will following this 'How To' remove everything?

Thanks!

Yes, I think the condenser is located within the HVAC system of the dash. I'll probably take it out one day. It's pretty big. I think that's what it's called its pretty much a large radiator.

For those of you who have an MPx UDP and want to remove AC and keep PS here are belt numbers.

It is actually the "evaporator coil"; the condenser is the part that mounts in front of the radiator.

I doubt it really weighs enough to make a huge difference. It is mainly just aluminum tubing, and fins.

If the HVAC module is already out for heater core replacement, by all means, remove it. Otherwise, I don't think it would be worth the effort.

Very little.

Just replacing the belt with an A/C delete belt will be the most bang for the effort. Even then , it might take a month or two to pay for the belt in fuel savings, if you just didn't use the A/C, or unplugged the compressor clutch connector. Depending on what you pay for the belt, and how much you drive.

But be warned, If the A/C is still functional, defogging the windows on warm humid days will take much longer. Not really worth the very minimal savings you will get, versus just keeping the fan speed selector out of the blue area.

I think the most benefit of doing this comes from weight savings. Unless you're stripping your car for weight reduction or needing extra room in the engine bay, leave it alone (think about the resell value for later).

And like said, unless you are going for cumulative weight savings, the total weight of the system is not enough to do much, if that is all you removed. A small child prolly weighs more.

question, would removing the ac pump help with parasitic drag in regards to how easily the motor revs? I know the car seems to rev a little faster with the underdrive pulley but I wonder if I would notice another small increase in how quickly she builds up steam if there were no AC pulley needing be turned as well. I never use AC and if this would save some weight, help with revs and possibly free up a HP or two it would seem to be worth the while for me.

Thanks for any feedback.

One other stupid question:

Is there any gain in "air flow" through the radiator when the condensor (in front) is removed ?

My SRT-4 always runs hot in traffic, and the dealer has checked my fans several times.
Car stays ~180 degrees when moving 60 mph.

An aspect that hasn't been mentioned is the electrical part of it.

Will it throw codes because of the unplugged connectors and missing components ? I haven't checked but is there a fuse for the A/C system ?

I'm only asking because it happened on a different make and model of car, since the RPMs needed to be increased to compensate for the drag of the working compressor.

Thanks for any input. :D

The only code you may get is from the relay in the PDC, if it is missing. I think it may throw a code for the relay circuit. Other than that, no you most likely wouldn't get a code. The relay circuit code wouldn't illuminate the CEL in this case, because it has no impact on emissions.

A year ago this weekend Ryan and I swapped a fresh motor in my '01 that had a complete A/C delete. The connectors just sat in their respected positions (we may have ziptied a few pieces here and there) and I never got a code for anything. Well, never an A/C-related code haha.

But did you pull the A/C relay?

I am only basing this off of a thread on the .org about a 1st gen that was throwing a code for the A/C control circuit. I would have never thought it would have a code for it, if not for that.

But the PCM does control ground for the relay, so it does stand to reason it will look for a complete circuit there.

Valid question! I genuinely have no idea what we did for that. I know we pulled the entire assembly thingy off the car, all the little metal tubing piping things, and something else... Ryan would know if we pulled the relay, I sure don't remember messing with anything electrical though.

Also, I apologize for many of the scientific and rich boy terms I used. It's the only way I know how to effectively communicate.

You no pull relay, you no get codes. I left my relay in place and no CEL for 5+ years.

Another thing: if we replace the HVAC control panel with an A/C-less one, do we need anything else from the donor car ? Since it doesn't have the inside/outside air selector knob, do we just leave the cable unhooked ? Or do we need to pull the whole underdash assembly to match the control panel ?

Thanks again !

Well, it hasn't been answered yet so I'll have to provide the info myself at some point. haha

The A/C compressor itself weighs 13lbs, so I can imagine that with all of the other components, one would look at removing about 20lbs worth of parts.
