Well if you are going to I suggest you save your pennies, and start searching for that manifold (or an ACR-R/T complete engine) now. Not many were built. I got lucky with the engine (right place/right time deal). Even got the "made by Borla" header!

Holy crap, welcome back.

I've been a little busy in the last month to realize you've posted a bit.

magnum intake swap

Post by Skip » Tue May 17, 2011 2:34 am

Sorry for bringing up old thread. I just did a 2,0 magnum rt motor swap on a 2002 neon base model . I used the double relay wot/rpm setup. For some reason the wot will not program at wot but only half way. I unplugged the wiring and it acts like the rev limiter is on at 4 grand. does this with the wiring and without. Could it be the fact I am using the stock throttle body and not the rt? Or could it be because I am using the old ecu and not rt? I used the writeup on this site and I have rechecked all my wiring and left confused. are the crank position sensors the same on both blocks? Please someone help.

how much all together for this mod. i have a 2000 SOHC 5spd and am raising a family on my school money. trying to get the most for my dollar and if i can reuse better optional/stock parts to do so then i'm all for it. if i'm better off going custom-DIYS. i hope to get an idea of what i want to do and how i want to do it. also i am going to school for automotive so i know some stuff really well and other stuff not so much.

Finding / paying for the Magnum intake is the biggest expense of this swap.

You may need to go to the junkyard for some of the related 'hardware'.

Figure to spend around $250-$350 for everything. Is the power difference worth the expense? Without the Magnum head and header you aren't looking at much of a gain in power. Is it worth it? That is up to you.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

just revisiting this idea, came across some new devices which have RPM window and WOT switches in one unit. the cheapest i've come across is the granatelli GM-DWS100

http://www.jegs.com/i/Granatelli/467/GM-DWS100/10002/-1

it does what the zex WOT switch does and what the MSD RPM window switch does but all in 1 unit.

I feel stupid asking, but does this require some sort of special head (magnum head?)... :tardbang:

Not necessarily.... will bolt up to sohc head. To enjoy the full benefits an rt head would be the way to go...

I will have an rt manifold and all the components to make it work. Pm if interested and if you have any other questions
