How-To: Remove PS cap for painting

Post by occasional demons » Tue Mar 16, 2010 11:56 pm

Remove cap from PS pump. Clean excess oil from dipstick.

Simply pry the slot with a flat screw driver:

It pops out rather easily.

Degrease the cap, and spray with adhesion promoter.
Paint it the desired color.

Wait for paint to cure, and snap it back in place.

Reinstall on PS pump.

I just reinserted the dipstick back into the pump reservoir while doing the cap.

I plan on painting it silver, with the blue as either a steering wheel logo, or the mopar M, I just haven't made up my damn mind yet. :D

Been on there for prolly over 40,000 miles like that, maybe more. That belt has about 160,000 ish miles on it, and still going. Wear away...

instead of using adhesion promoter, you can go to the hobbystore and buy tamiya hobby paint. its designed to adhere to plastics. i used it for my ps cap and it wont come off

With the paint for the ps cap. Is it high temp engine paint or can it be regular automotive paint?

I used regular spray paint. I don't think it gets hot enough to need engine enamel, but if you wanted to color match it, I can't see where engine enamel would hurt.

 I want to match some of the parts to the same color of the car when it gets painted.
