How-To: Hide your accelerator/cruise lines
How-To: Hide your accelerator/cruise lines
OK i stole this from a old post from neons.org but since i was outside monkeying with my car i decided to do it and i took pictures =p
YES ITS FREAKING DIRTY CALM DOWN
Honestly the picture makes it look worse then it is, i was shocked when i looked at the picture cause.. omg it looks bad, but its not.. honest and when spring hits it will be spotless =P
Before:
After:
Accelerator line is routed around the driverside of the engine, inbetween the intake manifold and the fans, then back thru the inside of the manifold to the TB.
Cruise just runs thru the inside of the manifold to the TB.
I covered all the lines with split loom for extra protection.

Hey dawm. What is the blue colored item connected to your PCV line? Nevermind, I saw it in the second pic..haha, I got that from Silverbullet on SRT forums. He told me to route mine out of the "back" of teh valve cover though, I think I may have fucked up. What do you think? I'll check when i get home...

well it came with my car, and thats the location where the oil sloshes during right turns and where it leaks into the intake.
i have a breather filter on the one at the back of the valvecover.

Hmmm. The outlet on the back of the cover leads to the intake also, but up at the CAI. I've never gotten oil out of it. Do you get oil at your location? I may change over to that breather you mentioned (The chrome Mr. Gasket special?)

previous owner did the breather. i havent had any problems, filter is dry as a bone, and i have the usual amount of oil in the catchcan thing, if i empty it it just fills back up and stays at the same amount, so no idea if it does work as its supposed to but i havent had any problems.

You have to remove the cable from the bracket that is attached to the TB (after you remove the cable from the T/B cam). There is a little lock tab that needs to be lifted and the cable slides out towards the back of the car. Then you simply run it under the intake and clip it back in place.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...
It is very easy. I did 5 of these while I was at Carlisle
I don't have my camera handy, but look at the point were the cable is secured to the TB and you will see the little lock tab.
Here are some pics of the way it's run...
It still had the ricer blue tubing on it then. But it's easier to see it that way

Roll the throttle cam all the way open, and pull the actual cable until the end with the little metal piece can be rotated enough that the cable slips through the slot.

i get them loose?

Wires....
The throttle cable housing has a little tab that needs pried out just a little to slide the cable assy from the bracket. I don't have a neon Speed Control cable to really say how it goes in, but the Stratus cable has two tabs that need squeezed together to remove it from the bracket. I imagine they are the same? The circled hole is where the tab needs pushed out to release the throttle cable housing.
The cable ends must be turned to slide out of the slots in the cable pulley.
The bracket and pulley are neon parts. Tho the pulley is an early ATX type. The concept is still the same.

I atoll haven't done this yet cuz I still cant get the damn throttle and cruise cables
out of the stupid housing on the intake....lol

When it's not raining outside, I'll get you some pictures man. What I did (and I almost broke that little plastic piece that slides into that hole in the above picture) was use a flat head and pry the top cable plastic piece out. The bottom cable doesn't have a locking plastic piece, so that one will slide out once the first one is out.
You know how to take the cable out of the throttle body, right? Pretty easy to figure that out, but if you need it I'll get pictures of that also man. Or a video. Whichever is easiest to upload

hide accelerator/cruise lines
Replaced the sparkplug tubes today and while I was at it hid the accelerator cable. Nice mod, simple to do and cleaned things up a lot. Looked at it when I was done and couldn't believe the difference!

ok i know this is pretty old but i recently just did this and my throttle cable seems to be binding somehow and causing my accelarator pedal to stick. i then switched it back to the way it was before but still happens. the engine redlines then when i lift the pedal back up it immedatley goes back to idle. any idea of what can be causing this?

Check the cable end where it slides in/out at the TB. If the cable has a strand broken there, it might be sticking up enough to catch. Or if you kinked the outer cable housing somehow doing the mod, you will need to replace the cable assy. Check the gas pedal also, they have been known to get a lot of play in the pivot. May be binding there.
