How-To: Gearshift controlcable bushing

Post by Gnuserup » Tue Sep 20, 2011 2:33 pm

Haven´t found a writeup so here is mine...

If you have trouble to shift the gears on your manual transmission, you most probably have a defective controlcable bushing.

Heard the dealers would sell only the whole unit and not single bushings, so you have to find a way.

Here I show how to get on this thing. I took a used bushing, but heard from some PT Cruiser drivers - who have the same problems with this - that they took a cutted washer and some kind of a sanitary plug to solve this.

You have to get the batterietray and the airfilterhousing off.

On the left the rest of my old bushing, then the used one and on the right a plastic-one which my colleague made for testing it.

Sorry you went through all this extra work.

http://www.boogerracing.com/boogerbushings.html sells this exact part for $20 shipped in the states (probably slightly more to get to Europe).

:D that´s what I have been missing until now, but would have had to get hands on the worn bushing anyway.
Heard meanwhile that modernperformance has them too.

Yes, Modern stocks them too, however in my opinion stuff like this should be bought direct.

Jeff more than likely makes more money when you buy them from him than when you buy them from Modern. Modern needs a cut of the action and they sell them for a similar price.

A for instance:

Buy them from Jeff:
Sells for $22. He pockets $22 (minus expenses).

Buy them from Modern:
Sells for $19. Jeff pockets $10 (minus expenses).

Numbers are made up, but make the point.
