Hey guys,

I've been having trouble with my sound system as of late. I replaced all my speakers with aftermarket stuff and it still doesn't sound very good.

I just threw in some JBL tweeters yesterday, and I threw in some Alpine Type S's for the door and rear speakers. The Alpine speakers are probably 2 years old.

The sound from the front sounds good, but it seems like i'm getting nothing from the rear.

I am using the stock RT HU with CD changer with XM radio. I thought it might be the XM signal, but even when i change it to just regular CD it sounds like poo.

Is it the headunit that isn't putting out good power at the bass range, or just not enough total power? How hard would it be to amp the speakers if there wasn't enough total power?

maybe swap out the HU with an aftermarket one.. it could be that the stock HU cant power the aftermarket stuff.. not sure though im not a audio guru.

Who in thier right mine would upgrade the speakers and keep the stock crap in the dash. replace the stock crap.

The problem probably lies within the weak stock deck. For a set of speakers like that you'd really want an external amp because even a 52x4 deck can get overloaded and cause the signal to clip and damage the speakers. But as long as you dont turn it up a great deal, you should be fine with an aftermarket unit.

One other thing to check is that the + and - on each speaker is wired consistently. If you reverse the polarity on one speaker, the speakers will be out of phase and the bass will be cancelled out. Just try flipping one set of wiers for a quick test.

oh wow, so it's possible i have the +/- wires hooked up on the wrong ones? I was under the impression that they wouldn't work at all...

And Ifixyawata wins the prize! Thanks soooo much man! I swapped out the wires on the passenger side 6x9 and the bass came back!
