Is anyone running the 12" Kicker CompVR's in they're neons? I'm about to buy a couple of them, and wanted to get people's opinions on them.

Nope. You might try an audio mod forum, because this isn't just specific to Neons.

I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed. Kicker CompVRs have always had a pretty good rep.

I am running one in my car...it hits 134SPL. I have it in a custom twin ported bandpass box(2.2 cubic feet each chamber)(port tuned to 35 hz). I love it. I need to run a better amp on it though. The thing I like about the CVR is that if it ever screws up....you can turn around and get the new CVX and the dimension is the same and everything, but the power handling jumps from 350 to 700watts. All due to the CVX sub being built in a cast iron basket just like the solo baric is. That shit pounds. I am about to dynomat my whole car to improve the sound.

^^^ Weight redux for you; ftl

the kickers are great, as long as you run good power to them, and I mean good by meaning clean power, not some crappy amp. They also need to be in a good box, once again, good means in a properly tuned box. I can not recall how many times I say kicks comps in a prefab'd box running off of some off-brand walmart amp pushing 10-bazillion watts and sounded like poop.

If you have the money, go to a reputable audio shop that has someone who has been doing custom work as well as installing for at least 10 years. The shop I used to work at had 4 installers, including myself and between the 4 of us we had over 45 yrs of experience in install/custom fab work... 10yrs for me, 25 for the old man (), and the other two had about 5 yrs each... we did most of the sound systems for the chief's players in town, as well as some of the big stars for the Royals (back in mid-late 90's ). We were also one of the most expensive stores in the area, but hey - you get what you pay for.

The amp I'm getting is a Kicker brand amp. Not sure of the numbers just yet. I told the guy to give me what I need. The box is a sealed box built by the guy installing them. He is reputably one of the best in Mississippi. Pics to come soon.

Also, will I need to run a separate battery? I'm new to the audio scene and I want to do this right the first time.

I have one 12" Kicker CompVR in a built ported box. tuned to 32hz with 2 cubic feet. Sounds nice and tight but i need more than 200 watts on it.

just as a notation...most prefab boxes are tuned to 60hz(sealed) and 50hz(ported)...that is box not port. the port is very important in a box if you are going ported.....in mine I ended up having a tiny bit of port noise....but I went back in a extend my ports one inche and the port noise is gone. I love this new box. I can't wait to sound deaden the car and also carpet the box as it will increase the sound really well.....Also as a hint of advice.....on adverage a box playing out side of a car will not sound as loud, but inside a car....the adverage gain of DB's is 7-12.
