Sub/Amp/Deck Question

i just installed a panasonic deck to a 200w amp and a rockford punch sub...(not sure, but they used to pound in my friends car for what they were) now i cant seem to get it to do anything...
it sounds like maybe a third rear speaker...all the connections are ok...and everything
my question is
could it possibly be my power wire being only shitty 10 gauge? ( it designed to handle my amps power )
or could it be a wrong RCA connection?

like a third rear speaker? ... sounds like either you got the deck setup wrong (if it has a sub crossover built in it) ... or the crossover on the amp has been switched off ...
the 10 guage wire is a tad small to tho .. but that alone wouldn't make it sound like a third speaker .. that is because a crossover is missing / hooked up wrong / turned off.

10 gauge wire for a 200 watt amp is plenty sufficient. Is the amp set correctly (gain, crossover etc...)

Switch your amp to low band freq. should one of those dials or switches on the front. "Third speaker" sounds like it's setup for the full range and not just the lows. If not check your speaker wires for proper polarity (+ and -) both inside the box and the external connections to amp.

either you ahve the amp on all-pass, or the rca's going to your sub amp is on the rear output instead of the sub output, also some radios have a selectable rear output where it can be switched between rear and sub out, or your amp is a 4-channel that dosent have a crossover built in

what panasonic radio do you have also. being that some panasonics as craz stated have selectable outputs..on some of them the only way to get into the menu to select it is thru your remote. but if your connections are all right (ie, your sub preout is on your rca's and can control sub level from deck) check your amps levels and crossover. make certain the amp is set on lp and your frequency is not up all the way. the gain is NOT for frequency. you should have possibly two dials...one is frequency the other is gain. this allows you for instence be able to send 200 watts to a set of regular speakers if needed when you turn the frequency level up and or switch to full or hp. subs usually never need this portion turned up alot beign they are subs and do not need to see a high frequency. most subs require 60 to 80 hz anything higher than 80 and your sending distortion thru your sub when it wasnt designed to do so and run the potential of causing premature failure. now that is out the way...adjust your gain. your gain shouldnt be runing wide open as i like to call it. turn your volume in your car to where you like it...your max level of where you listen to it normally.now adjust your gain to equal the level of your interior speakers. your sub should sound like it belongs there....not liek it is overpowering your whole system. once you have it all tuned you should be good. now as far as power wire goes...do you want to be able to upgrade your system later on? 200 watts only requires 10 to 8 guage wire. but if you plan on doing something like 500 or even 1000 you will want to upgrade or even if you do a fourchannel amp.

problem solved...you may laugh, you may think im an idiot...but my buddy (WHO I BOUGHT IT OFF!) even couldn't figure it out...apparently when he got his new sub he took the speaker wire out of the box but didn't tell me that...and was convinced that it still had sound coming out which i never did buy...
i nearly strangled him with speaker wire haha.
everything is golden now tho
thanks
