Little help?

Post by rannox » Sat May 19, 2007 9:07 pm

So i dont really got the cash to buy a new head unit, but i got a sytem off my bud for 60$, 2 alpine type e 12's and a kole amp.

Well i decided im gonna see if i can wire it myself.

What would i hook my REM up to on a stock head?

Everything else is wired and ready to go, not tucked yet for test purposes.

the rem wire for the amp i read on another post on here someone hooked it up to the radio wire coming from the fuse box so they could run an amp off stock deck.....

they also sell a mini blade fuse splitter so you dont have to go behind the fuse panel.. plugs rigth into the original fuse slot, and has 1 fuse for the acc and another with a positive lead coming off it for whatever you need it for...

you can also run a wire straight off the battery and put a toggle switch somewhere so you can turn on the amp.. (just dont forget to turn it off)

i ended up using the wires off of the cig lighter, was reading the howto for making it into a starter, and was like, hey, i can use that ang go get a 5$ switch.

Lol, so now the acc is a little button i tucked right under the defrost switch. works good :)

But since i was splicing the wires from the back speakers to the amp, its kinda distorted.

I was driving around and sum1 flipped me off, haha, i guess that means its loud.

does your amp have a low pass filter? that should kill the distortion... is it spliced from the rear speakers to the RCA inputs?,

nm, it does have a low pass, and a high pass, i played with it a little to kill some distortion, then had the bright idea to change my ground from the tailights ground to the strut bolts, that killed the distortion a lot.

I have the amp at about half power, stock speakers arent good enought to keep up with the subs, so i turned it down untill i liked it.

wait so how did you tap into the rear speakers?

i bet if you get a line-output converter it would help you get the lows back.

hes using the hi-level inputs for signal, dude thats the worst thing you could have done, get a line-output converter and use the low-leve input, itll lower distortion, also make sure your RCA's and the power wire arent ran together too, that helps some also
