Post by boxcarfan » Fri Jun 22, 2007 12:30 am

ok im good with engines and drive train...but i know nothing about audio...and i want to get a decent sound out of my car...02 sxt...how do i get the rear speakers out and what size are they? i got a 240 amp and i wanna get better speakers. so where should i mount the amp its about 9 inches long and 6 inches wide. and i wanna run RCA's to the back and in the amp. so would that mean i have to totally take power off the reg. wires going to the speakers now or can i just unplug it and run the RCA's....thanks for the help.

(i posted this under audio but not responded)

Mount it on the rear of your back seat. This way you can flip it down to tune it accordingly. I'm going to upgrade my speakers also. I have Pioneer ones right now being run with a 250 watt Kenwood Amp. I'm upgrading to Boston Acuostics because I listen to a lot of electronica and want something crisp and clean. FIrst off, what do you listen to music wise and we can go from there.

I mounted my amp to the rear of the back seat and I'm going to have to move it because it's a tad too big. The corner of my amp hits the bracket my seat rests against on the side, so nobody can sit on that part of the seat without damaging the amp. I would suggest mounting the amp on the side in front of the fenders (the little pocket of space that is there) or on the spare tire cover. I have a Kenwood KAC-7203 wired to some MB Quart RUA 216's and they are LOUD, crisp and clear with electronica and techno music.

So you have a 100 watt amp or 170x2/ 500x1 wired to your two front speakers ? I see they only make that model in 6.5" or am I missing something.

rear deck is 6x9

You have to pull the rear seat out and then you can pull of the carpet and there they be.

You need run power from your battery back to the amp. Most people run it down the driver's side. You run your RCAs from the radio down the passanger side of the car to the amp.

It's running the amp at 170x2 and the components are 6.75 which fit the speaker bracket perfectly. Yeah they are my front speakers, the rears are stock still, but when I do get new rear speakers I'm going to get some cheepo pioneers or lightning audio's from Wal-Mart because the rear speakers are just for "filling in", not for clarity.

Moved to Audio, sorry you didn't get a response but I'll leave the shadow topic here to help drive people to your thread.
