hey good info, and I think this will help people in the future, I like it. If you do a how too, do it in the How Too section so it is easier to find
And info on where to get those hard to find parts (like the connectors) would be great

First off kc2002acr sorry for the hijack question, I hope you won't mind too much.
kc2002acr, once again I apologize for the thread jack.
I'm glad that this wasn't the problem for you, and that you were able to locate and resolve your situation with minimal damage. It could have been so much worse if you didn't respond so quickly. Still what you went though was a big PITA. Kudos to you.

Is there something I should be leery of? Am I at risk? My 2000 LX came with the fog light option (which I absolutely love) from the factory. On my door jam it says that my baby was manufactured May of 99'. Obviously this is the first I've heard of anything like this happening and I would prefer to prevent any misshapes from occurring down the road. Thanks in advance for any help.Danteneon wrote:Well, you may be more right than I had thought![]()
I looked up the headlamp switch to see if the # was the same through the years, and they superseded the '00 up to the later models switch, but Chrysler has also tacked this parts bulletin to the parts listing...
Tech Tip Part Description: Multi-Function Switch
Tech Tip Description: If gray 20-way Multi-Function Switch connector is also damaged and requires replacement, wiring kit 05183442AA is available, without replacing the entire wiring harness.
Obviously they must replace these things more often than I realized.

I am not sure if this is related or not but when running parking lights or sometimes headlights on long trips i notice a melting of plastic smell and once in a very long while i see a small stream of smoke coming from around the hazard light button.
Is this most likely the connector everyone is talking about? If so where is this connector located in the dash?

I would think so. The connector in question is under the column cover behind the steering wheel (the cover that the hazard switch knob comes up through)ragek23 wrote:I am not sure if this is related or not but when running parking lights or sometimes headlights on long trips i notice a melting of plastic smell and once in a very long while i see a small stream of smoke coming from around the hazard light button.

Pull that off and check the condition of your connector to the ones above.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Thank you. I have money on it that mine is burnt...although it never gets hot. I am at almost 100k so we'll seeDanteneon wrote:You see the big cover behind your streeing wheel? It sits in there. You may call it a headlamp switch
