any ideas?

Post by w0158981 » Fri Feb 08, 2008 4:28 pm

so i want a deck i'm thinking pioneer or alpine are going to be it,
i was hoping for something with 3 preouts, sub, front rear so i can play with the filters and have highs in the front you know, anyway i'm looking at the decks with the ipod adapters and you control the ipod through the deck and i'm thinking would it be easier to go through the aux? anyone have expierence with them? i have the previous gen ipod if tht matters, my other worry is alpine decks seem to have less wattage? huge deal or no lol, anyway i'm looking for a good deck i'm buying it off ebay so yea i was looking at the alpine cda-9883 but was then looking at the previous ones with aux input and for pioneer i was looking at the ones with screem savers and older gen with the aux again i guess a big thing i was wondering about was the ipod control
if you have any ides i'd love to hear them this is the start of my sound system and i no its a key component thanks!

edit:
hey just found a good deal on a pioneer deh-p3900mp any ratings?

just go to http://www.crutchfield.com and do your research and find something you like

as for the less wattage, well if you actually plan on using amps for front/rear/sub then the wattage from the head unit wont matter since youll be using the outputs to the amp (which is the only thing the outputs are used for, to go to an amp, not sure if you know that)

otherwise you want something with the highest RMS per channel

the deh-p3900mp looks pretty good

the type-r 12's and 10's should be very close in price, go for the 12's, mine are 3-years old now and i love them, they still sound like they did when they were new, check out my 05 neon it has details of everything i have.

as far as decks, if your buying a 2007 (ex. DEH-PX9XX for 2007 and DEH-PX0XX for 2008) model or newer go for pioneer, they have the same sound quality as alpine and they are much easier to use and have more features /options. if the deck is older than 2007 (ex DEH-PX8XX or less) they are very close to alpins quality but youll stiff have the same bells and whistles, my system is full alpine and the radio is a 3 year old PIO and it sounds great.

i bought both my pioneer dehp670mp and a dual brand xdma7515 from ebay no prob..
i say go pioneer, but i always liked them.. or if your on a budget....

now everyone flames dual, i never would have bought it, but my g/f wanted it for her car cuz it was "pretty", so i got it. 80$ shipped for the xdma7515 or something like that.. it came with 3 preouts, aux, and a/v hookup, ipod adapter came with it, mp3, and a bluetooth adapter for your phone. looks good, sounds great, infinity speakers and 2 12"s in the trunk, surprised the hell out of me, i was impressed,. im 99% sure it had the high pass filters and the low pass for the sub built in, i can double check...

I'm running the deh-4800ui I believe. Its a nice unit. Has the 3 pre-amp outputs, accepts the 30pin ipod connector, and an aux input that I keep in the glove box to hook up my laptop.

I was able to find it on ebay factory refurbished for like $130 shipped with the ipod cable.

It works great. As far as adjusting the sound goes, there are plenty of filters to mess with. The only thing I dislike at all about the deck is that you can't autoscroll through the ipod artists/albums/whathaveyou, you must repeatedly press the button.

EDIT
Ok its a 490IB

aquariuskid2001 wrote:now everyone flames dual
and im one of those, when i worked at bestbuy i up that exact dual to my scope and the sound quality was worse that the sony's we sell and those were the crappiest radios that we carried other than dual or insignia. the kenwoods were alright along with the JVC's but the pios and alpines are as good as you can get.

and about the pioneers, if your model number has 2 or 3 numbers instead of 4 (ex. DEH-PXXX[mp,ib,ub] vs DEH-PXXXX[mp,ib,ub]) and its not a primier model then you baught a striped down version of that model. heres how you can break down thier model numbers.

DEH-PXY[00][mp,ib,ub]

x= the series, the higher the number the better the model 1 is lowest 9 or 8 is thier best

y= year 4=2002, 5=2003..... 9=2007 0=2008

the 0's that are in brackets is the indicator if its a striped down model, if both are missing its a radio that wal-mart sells or equivilant, these are the most stripped down models they make, and last i looked were exclusive to wal-mart. if one is missing and its NOT a primier model its a stripped down version of the normal model, usually its a cheaper sound processor or less support for mp3 discs, something software based. Primier models are thier best models, way better internals.

[mp,ib,ub]
mp=reads mp3 cd's

ib=has full speed support for i-pod, though the old school av-bus they had on the AVH-P's or the AVIC's, except these are white instead of blue

ub= has usb support behind the radio in place of the ib plug

the ib's do everhthing the mb's do plus they have the new ipod port hence the "ib" badge

the mb's use the old school ip-bus (ONLY IF IT SAYS SAT RADIO READY ON THE FACE) ipod interface which is what my AVIC-N2 uses and i must say it SUCKS MAJOR ASS compared to the new ib-bus pioneer has.

the ib ipod cord is arround $30
the ip-bus ipod interface is about $50

the ipod difference is going to depend more on the cable you are using .. if you are going out of the headphone jack on the ipod .. it won't be as good as going out of the connection on the bottom of it

either would be an improvement over using an FM transmitter tho
