this might sound like a weird question but i have 2 12's coming in tomorrow and i was wondering if it is better to have them facing the front of the car or to the rear of the car to get the best base out of them?

Don't know about our cars yet but on my old car I liked it better when the sub was facing the front. Sure, it lost some boom and people couldn't hear me from miles away unless my windows were down but somehow the bass (like the fast bass drums on some heavy metal songs) sounded better facing front. But then again my mids were real crappy.

the general rule of thumb is to face them to the rear of the car, about a foot from the bumper side of the trunk. that does not mean it is the best possible placement for them though. your best bet would be to hook everything up and try them both ways and see what sounds best for you.

the direction you point the subs is actually more dependent on the specifications of the box and how its built not the subs

typically, if u fire the subs forward into the cab, it's usually louder on a Termlab, but to the human ear, facing them to the rear is loudest.
so it boils down to what u want out of the bass.

What if the space is limited between the subs and rear of the trunk. My box is too wide to fit between the rear strut towers, so there is very little space between the speakers and end of the trunk. It's 2 12" memphis subs if that makes any difference. This thread made me think about it so I thought I'd ask.

all i can say is try it all diffrent ways if you want hard hitting bass put it in a sealed box face down with somthing holding it up so the sub dont hit the trunk floor. i see one 12 sound like 2, 12. other then that face them to the back and put one side of the seat down. thats how mine is and i have one 12 that shakes my rear view mirror down so i cant see out it.
