I wouldn't call doing that "not p****** people off," I would call it being polite. And, to answer your question, yes, I do the same.

I do the same, except when someone bumps loud next to me, I turn mine up and look at their face.

I don't have a sub or anything but I try to keep my music low when pulling in somewhere. I always turn my music down very low or just off completely when going into a subdivision. After living on a corner lot at the entrance to a large subdivision... loud music and bass can get annoying when it's driving by hour house at all hours of the day, several times a day.

essentially the only time i don't turn my music down is when i'm cruising down the road. stopped, pulling into a house, store, food, whattever and it gets turned down

Dude I thought we were seriously going to fight, he was getting fucking pissed! I would've got my ass kicked, I can't even walk right now.
Either way I think if I had my car i would've been an idiot and bass'd right back. But he was being obnoxious and I couldn't even hear the person next to me talking.
Hilarious nonetheless

i always turn mine down when come up to a stop, drive thru, store, etc. i also keep it turned down at night if i'm anywhere near houses...on the highway though, that's a differant story

Yeah, I do the same. I agree, it's being polite. I don't even have an aftermarket system!

Same here. I learned long ago that you don't crank your system where you live. Not just to be polite, but when people notice a loud system and see you park, you might as well hang a sign that says "I have a killer system in here. Wait till about 3 AM and check it out for yourselves!"

Yeah I sold all of my audio stuff (amp, subs) except for the head unit after high school. It was only cool in high school anyway, after that it's just annoying. I kept the head unit because it's got a USB port on the front and playing music off of a 2 Gb flash drive is easier than burning CDs every week.
Both then and now, I always turn down the music as a general rule of thumb to match the volume of the engine. My GF and every other passenger give me weird looks for turning it down at every red light, but it just makes sense. You never know when an ambulance is going to come up behind you at a light, or a pyscho criminal runing from the cops will go blasting through a red light and side swipe you.

lol.
Everyone is so polite around here. I only turn down when parked or in ghetto trailorparks. I purposely bang it out going thru my "rival" city's downtown area where its 25mph and full of stupid ass people.
My friend mike (18" btl) cranked a 32hz test tone when he was drunk and a lady was ordering at burger king...needless to say she was less than thrilled. I still laugh when i think about that one.

I cant even drive with the radio loud, let alone obnoxiously loud. Stock system is more than enough for me. As much as I love music, somehow hearing the car is a required part of a driving experience IMO. Not being able to hear the engine, road noise, and all the creaks and rattles from the suspension makes me feel pretty uncomfortable for some reason. I never realized it until just now. I usually keep the tunes lower than the exhaust tone (which isnt very loud). Anyone else feel this way?

OB, I think to myself at times that I may mask problems with the engine by having the music too loud and discover them when it's too late...

Yeah I think that has something to do with it for me too. I'm super paranoid lately, especially since i've been having issues for the last few months. It's subconcious I think. The radio thing has gotten worse. I used to blast all day long and the last 1-2 years I spend 75% of my time in the car with no radio at all.

when i'm in that mood to drive spiritedly, the music gets shut off so i can listen to the engine, exhaust, supercharger, creaks and rattles. It makes me feel more "one" with the car.
now if it's heading to work, or cruising around staying out of boost, then the music is blasted at decent levels.

I'm always cranking the music at concert levels...... what can I say, I love it loud. I guess that's why I blew the stock speakers. I do however turn it down in housing areas and in drive-thrus. I don't turn it down at stop lights...... why? I don't see the need. FYI I don't go thumping my 2 12" subs though, I like bass but I also like the whole spectrum of sound to be balanced, full and rich! One last note I mostly drive with the window up, so as not to get a lot of road and ambient noise messing with my tunes. Oh, and one more thing I've never had any issues pulling off to the side of the road for any kind of emergency vehicles.

Yeah honestly if you can't hear an Ambulance or cop car then you have some serious hearing problems, even over my bass.

I agree with you again. huh.
You're right though, from my own experience, its almost faster to drive without lights and sirens. People move out of the way when they see a cop car behind them, but turn the lights on, and its like they get hypnotized, and cant think anymore. They definatly wont move the hell out of the way.

I'm with OB on this one. I would rather here my car most of the time. Besides, the stock kicker system leaves something to be desired when it comes to sounding good.

I bump opera and classical at stoplights to fuck with people, especially when someone is bumping shit (rap) next to me.

I turn mine down as well at stop lights, drive thrus, when pulling into my neighborhood, ect. When I'm driving down the road, on the highway, ect, I do turn it up to an acceptable level.

i turn mine down to respect others, the music is for my enjoyment, and not all people like the same music as me and I respect that. Plus I don't want to be one of the local punk as kids that everyone hates around here even though I am 23 years old, but I am well known for my car around here. Any time I am somewhere they are like hey I have seen you around town and always wondered who owned that car, then word spreads. I would rather not piss someone else off to where they damage my car. Because then I would be going to prison for murder. and I can't do that right now and about to get married.

I have to have mine loud just so the old ppl dont hit me. It may piss them off but at least i know my car wont get hit.
