"Vehicles built for use in Canada are equipped with a Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) system. The DRL function is provided by the cluster. The DRL Module is an integral part of the instrument panel cluster."- 2002 Service Manual
Have you been having any electrical problems with your cluster? Have you rewired your fog lights so that they will operate without the headlights? Two places to start looking.

Now this has me wondering if a dealership could reprogram our clusters like this...cherokeesrt8.com wrote:U.S. fleet vehicles illuminate the low beam headlamp bulb in each front lamp unit to serve as DRL. Officially, non-fleet U.S. Grand Cherokee WK's are not certified to have the DRL feature enabled. However, we have confirmed that some owners have had this done at their dealer. All that was required was simple reprogramming via the DRB scan tool.

My guess is no. The jeep is probably controlled by the BCM or some other computer where it can be enabled or disabled, whereas the neon appears to be "dumb" and is integrated into the cluster circuitry or it isn't. My guess is cluster swap would be the only OEM way of achieving this... Again, I may be incorrect though.

Good question, IIRC, BUX is "Built Up Export", but I can see where being loaded, or "built up" could be a disadvantage in selling in poorer countries.

I don't think that Neons sold in Canada and Mexico were considered BUX models even though the ones badged as Chryslers in Canada had more equipment on them than those sold here. As for Mexican-sold ones, I don't know. Any other markets outside of North America, I think it's safe to say that DCX labeled them as BUX.

Well, for this instance, since I'm a moron with foreign stuff, the Canadian clusters force the DRLs to come on. I don't know why you'd need one imported from the UK if a Canadian one will give you the same result (unless you're looking for MPH vs KPH or some other detail with which I can't be bothered).

Correct, which is why I had looked into buying a new one from my dealership years ago (gave up when I saw how much it would cost and, like you, not wanting to be bothered with km/h being the larger digits on the speedo). I just fantasized about a dealership somehow being able to flash something to get the DRLs to work without buying a new cluster. I was wrong but it was a nice fantasy.FAC3L3SS wrote:...the Canadian clusters force the DRLs to come on.
