Replacing the stock 6x9's??

Post by srtgtr34 » Fri Jan 09, 2009 10:26 pm

I went to go replace them a couple weekends ago and ran into problems left in right. My little manual says to take the rear seat backs off, but they are held on by some weird style bolt.

Anyone know how to remove it or what bit I have to buy to remove it?

I think you are referring to the Torx bolts. T55

I went out and bought the bit but that thing is really in there! Used my air rachet at 120psi and it didn't even budge, for something thats supposed to be on there at 48lbs it fights like its on their at 150lbs. I currently have both bolts soaking in wd40, hopefully that will loosen them up.

Still no luck, tried it on a breaker bar and they still wouldn't move, these dam things feel like they are welded in place.

I didn't take out my rear seats to remove my rear deck. Just used some twisting techniques.

I had the torx, but I snapped the bit trying to get it out. All I did was fold down the seats, and remove that plastic piece between them. Its held in by those annoying plastic things.

I'm going to use my 1/2in to 3/8 adapter and put the bit on the impact gun, if that doesn't take it off then, I don't know what I'm going to do.

I have tried putting something on the breaker bar but really couldn't get that far because I was in a garage, its cold outside!.

you are going through way too much effort/hassle for no reason.. there really isnt a NEED to remove those bolts.. as stated already.

pop up the rear seat backing then pop up the plastic tabs in the rear deck that the seat belts are in and take the seat belts out and carefully remove the deck... viola all done.
