I was going to buy the Kenwood eXcelon slim subwoofer (carbon fiber cone), but I went with the bigger Kenwood sub. I've heard the only slim subwoofer worth buying is the JL...I've never heard it, but I know people who swear by it.

Yea JL is my number one and the rockford is second. Have you checked out sonic electronics. They have decent prices. I would help you out but shipping would kill. LOL

Well some decent subs have a mounting depth of like 5-7 inches i think.
Is it just the air space they require thats making u lean towards shallow mounts??

This thread interests me too.
I need to run shallow depth subs in my F350. I have a crew cab, so there is very little room behind the back seat. Having a power sliding rear window also eats up some room.
I was leaning towards two of the 13" subs from JL. Price is a little steep, but not bad considering the rest of the shit Im going to put into the truck.

i saw a really interesting box at a show that i wanted to tweak to make it my own. also want to try and keep things on the lightweight side.

If I didnt have a duty bag, medic bag, and very soon a turnout bag to keep in the back, I wouldnt mind something like this. I just need to keep too much crap in the truck to make that practical.

Its an Isobaric setup (correct me if im wrong) so 2 subs in a small shared enclosure are guna sound like one sub in a bigger enclosure.

It is isobaric. For that setup to work the speakers would have to be wired out of phase. If they are in phase you will just have turbulence in the enclosure

thank you medan.
Ntyvirus1 i say u get some bigger more powerful subs just to compensate for bass.

bigger usually equates to more weight, gunna try to prep the car for show+ occasional road racing and whatnot more weight would be bad.

iso setups can get quite loud. i used to run one back in the day. i always did mine with the subs face to face and loved the results but i have never seen one link that.
if you are after just a tube mount there is a much cheaper and easier way to do it.
click here to see pics of a build log. it will not be clear but you can cover it anyway you like.
i see that guy is running the new jl hd line of amps. haven't heard them yet but they look surprisingly similar to another line of amps on the market....
