cant help you on the noise, but I can relate... and maybe it's just the stock players don't last...

My stock CD player just stopped playin CD's... can insert and it says track 1, but just sits there.

I got pissed enough and went out and just bought aftermarket. Just as a tip, I bought one for like 85 bucks, a JVC, and just did the adapter plug into the stock wiring harness. thing to realize is now, even the cheapys, like this one, will have the jack for a MP3/IPod, play CD's AND will play MP3 Cd's... cool thing about that is u can make a disk with like 100 times more songs on it, and the player displays the name of the song!.. also, they all (even the cheapy's) come with removable faceplates... and that's the reason I stuck with the stock one for so long, thinkin less likely someone would break in and steal it

Prolly the microswitch that senses a CD is stuck, and it is attempting to read the disc. Tho that doesn't explan why it does it when there is one, or it might depending on how it is set up. I swapped mine out for aftermarket, because it wouldn't always eject them, and then it got to the point it would only play burned CD's and wouldn't play commercially made one's. :tardbang:

Now I don't even play CD's, I just plug in the MP3.
