Poll: Alarms: Two Way vs One Way

Post by jT » Tue Oct 20, 2009 4:34 am

Do you have, do you use, have you had, have you used, ever seen, etc etc a two way car alarm pager/remote? What do you think about them and their practicality and usefulness?

Looking for a remote start + alarm upgrade for the new car and theres so many options out there! I kind of like the idea of the 2way remote, yet I don't know how useful it would actually be, especially since there won't really be anything in the car that needs protection like that (nor would my fiance jump out of bed to go see what's wrong).

I do know at least one instance that I've witnessed a 2way being useful -- dude's van was attempting to be stolen and the pager got him up and outside.. no GTA that night.

On a side note, from the remotes that I've seen, I don't really like the actual remote fob of the 2way systems..... they just don't look nice.

I love my two way alarm. I have a Prestige XR9000. I like that it tells me when the car is locked or unlocked. It also has another features, like telling you the temperature inside the car, being able to start the car when it reaches a certain temperature (or drops to one), turbo timer, parking meter timer, and so much more.

I wouldn't go back to a one-way after having a two-way, but that's me personally.

Unless he meant cost of getting it installed locally.. which is nowhere near the same price as buying the kit online.

Ive been quoted about $450ish for an older discontinued Hornet model, and up to $600 for some compustar (i think?) model.. got to check at one or two more places

The compustar one he said they program the key code into the unit or whatever for the engine immobilizer to work, and the hornet one they attach the actual chipped key into a bypass thingy so then i guess you could start the car with any key regardless of the chip.... and of course he said that method is the most reliable where the programmed code could fail sometimes... blah. the choices!

I install the viper units and love them. It all depends on what options you want and what you expect from the alarm. If you want any help pm me as you arent that far. Maybe I can help you out.

I have the 5701 viper alarm system.. it came with both 1 and 2 way remotes and one different is that the 2 way get paged when the alarm goes off. But both remote do the same thing... i love my alarm system and it also has a build in turbo time and many other lil things.

I also vote 2 way, so many times with the old alarm if it decided to not arm or dissarm randomly or whatever you'd never know. With 2 way you get confirmation and a pretty picture telling you whats going on :)
