Headlight Output Rating (Stock)

I have a 2000 Plymouth Neon. I recently bought a new set of bulbs because my driver side low beam bulb burnt out. These were some ebay brand 5000k 100/80w bulbs. So I made a trip to the yard to pull from OE headlight bulbs and they ran fine, high & low beams. I purchased another set of 5000k ebay bulbs with the 100/80w rating and no sooner than 5 minutes with the bulbs installed and ON with low beams, my driver side low beam bulb blew! The highbeams still come on and continue to work without blowing.
Anyone else experience anything similar with their neons?

stop buying crap bulbs from ebay. spend a little cash and get some sylvania silverstars. you will be very happy with the results.

Running 80/100w bulbs is also going to fry mfs. Better stop now before it's too late. Stick with 55w.

ya those ebay bulbs are crap.. spend some money on sylvanias.. i got them and they are way better than the ebay ones.. hands down

In addition to melting the MFS, the more wattage you are putting through something, the more you shorten the life. Hell, is anything above the normal 65W even legal on-road where you live?

I'm surprised the people who flip out over those of us who use their 65W high beams haven't flamed this thread over you using 80W as a low beam....
You figure it out yet?

Your pocket will really hurt when you have to buy the MFS and half the dash wiring.

Creative use of relays prevents that problem.

if one isn't willing to spend the cash to do it the right way i doubt they will be willing to get creative with relays...

LOL, okay. Have fun! Besides, in addition to having to replace the MFS and half the wiring, it's "cheap" to buy new bulbs every five minutes? Seems you are racking up quite the bill for a stupid reason. New bulbs every time you turn your headlights on, melted harnesses and switches with the potential for a fire because of it. Hope the burned out bulbs are worth the five minutes of extra light.
Ask for help because you don't know what the problem is, and then ignore what everyone is telling you. Keep on keeping on!
The gene pool could use some chlorine...
