Can anyone point me towards (provide a link) to a good small battery kit for my SRT? I assume I'll need some type of new bracket to secure it as well. Any tips would be sweet. Thanks

That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks LSP. My next question is, do I need a special type of Battery Tender for a drycell battery? Or will any 12v battery tender be ok?

You won't have much reserve power (20 minutes IIRC), The battery terminals are on the small side, and you will have to figure out a tie down method or your battery will clunk around under the hood like mine did.

You'll also have to figure out a way to use your battery blanket and sensor in that tie down. The ecu controls the recharging voltage to the battery. If the sensor and blanket are not touching the battery it will read as the battery being to hot (since there's hot under hood temperature air flowing between the sensor and the battery). I believe the ecu will then adjust the recharging voltage accordingly... and it'll mess up your battery.

My drycell battery went bad after a year.

Why not just put it in the trunk?

Unless you're planning on turning your car into a racecar, a smaller battery isn't really a great idea. The only purpose is to save weight. If you want to shed a few lbs, start with the easier stuff that won't affect your DD as much.

I researched this quite a bit a few years ago, because I had the same idea. I realized that the pro's outweigh the cons. Lower power batteries are very unreliable, especially in colder climates, and have a pretty bad maintenance to performance ratio. Also, a battery relocation is much more effective as a performance mod than to cut the battery's weight in half. Weight distribution is much more important than total weight in these cars. If you plan on relocating it, I actually recommend using a heavier battery to help displace the weight better.

With all that in mind, I went to the Optima website and attempted to look up / order a battery for the SRT, but after I put the year of the car (2005) and make into the search system, it didn't list neon or SRT as a model. Anyone have a clue which battery I should look at? I know the size is 26r but there is no place for that in the search function.

I remember hearing a long time ago that you have to manually request the battery that fits in our cars. They don't list it in their app list for some reason. Can't remember the specifics though, someone chime in.

Yes please lol. I found the Odyssey PC1200MJT, but it's over $214. Am I just going to have to accept this? Or does someone have a better recommendation?

AutoZone/Advance/Napa says Optima 35R fits my car. All were right around $185. Here

If you are looking for a more powerful battery you are better off going with an oversized battery like I did. Although you are probably looking for a dry cell.

It has to be a 26R for me right now. Anything larger won't fit because of my 4 inch CAI. It literally hugs a 26R.

Well the smallest optima is the 35 and it is still a little bit bigger than 26R. My battery is about an inch wider and inch taller so that won't help either.

my drycell was a hawker that one guy used in his ARC-4 weight reduction project and it was ~$90...

The only issue we have is if you run at an NHRA track, you have to run two wires front to back, one coming from the alternator/starter to one side of the switch, and the other side to the PDC. Then, there has to be a switch mounted on the rear of the car clearly marked.
