Post by cbjones26 » Thu Apr 01, 2010 2:29 pm

ok so i took the antenna off my car and im shaving the hole for it, well im a dumb ass and forgot to unplug the battery, and there was a lil spark when i took the top part of the antenna off the fender, and now my radio wont play? neither stock nor aftermarket. i have tested both in another car and they work, i have checked the fuses and i dont find any that are blown, any ideas?

if i unplug my antenna from the car radio .. it doesnt work either ... it needs the antenna , or it wont do a thing ( not even light up ).

you've removed your stock antenna now .. what are you gooing to replace it with ?? inner antenna or something ?

if you have already an other antenna .. plug that one in ... an the radio wil most likely function again ;)

Maybe that is a Euro thing, but I can tell you that our radios will work just fine without an antenna. I haven't had an antenna on my RB1 for a year now and it works just fine.

But I am baffeled by this. There should be no reason that you should have gotten a spark from the antenna. No current is there.

How did you check the fuses? Did you just look at them, or did you test them with a meter? And did you check the underhood fuses as well? Are there any other things that aren't working (brake lights, power outlet, gauges, ect.)?

*Edit* Never mind then...seems it works now
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

i just pulled every fuse and looked at them, i dont have a meter to check them with, but i did have a test light so i know it was getting power, and then i put the radio in another car to make sure i didnt screw the radio up? either way it works now , thanks anyways!

Your ground wire is prolly loose/not connected. It was grounding through the antenna shield wire. Very common if there is no ground wire/strab connected to the radio body.

Edit:
Strab. WTF, my "p" has a hard on again. Dammit, how embarrasing.

that is what i thought, ( and there wasnt a ground strap on the radio) i didnt install the radio it was in the car when i got it and when i relocated it i didnt pay attention ( the ground wasnt hooked to anything) so i hooked the ground in and it still wouldnt turn on but then i went back out and it worked?
