Sub Placement
Sub Placement
So I have 2 12inch subs that's sealed inside a box but i don't want the box anymore. I want to pull the subs out of the box and mount them somewhere in the trunk or backseat somewhere. I don't want to fiberglass them in place right now so I was wondering if any one of yall have any ideas of how to set them up. I have been brainstorming but come to no conclusions or ones that don't quite fit right. If anyone has any ideas please drop me a line. Any ideas and help are definitely appreciated. Thanks!

I know i'm gonna hear a TON of feed back on what i'm about to say...but I took an electronics Technologist diploma and an electronics Engineering degree for my trade in the military and I will tell you to KEEP it in the "bandpass" box cause that is your best result for performance and way of "backpressure" on the sub's.
I have a 350W 10" MTX bluethunder that is pushed by a 350W Oasis amp that I tweeked to a 425W and it is amazing with no rattle or vibrations in the trunk or car. It sounds amazing when hooked up.
But this is my opinion...and please everyone take it easy on me k lol

NINEBALL: Whats IB? In back?
RADARSX 2.0: I love it in the box but i HATE how it takes so much space. Maybe building a smaller box for it? Would it make a difference in sound if i do build a smaller box and put them closer together? Also you said you have no rattling or anything when you push your subs, how is that? I cant seem to figure how to stop the rattling of the rear window (or so it sounds like where its coming from) but i managed to build a small bracket for my rear view mirror to put an end to that rattling. Maybe I just use 1 12inch sub instead of 2?
I appreciate the advice from yall. Feel free to input any other ideas or thought. Im open to all.

Yeah with 2 twelves...what size of amp(s) you using to push those?
But I definately think that for the size of our cars that is a little too much sub lol. It's the rare time I will say that smaller is better lol.
I would say yes you could bring them closer together but the distance from your "plexiglass" (you do have a ported bandpass box right?) has to stay that distance. (give me the distance from your speakers to the face) But I would be willing to say that if you just disconect one sub and run just one you will probably see a diffence and probably won't be any distortion (vibration).

infinite baffle. in a nutshell you seal off the trunk from the rest of the car and use the entire trunk as an enclosure, but there really is no enclosure.

I took degree's and diploma's and understand that (after 150 000 in schooling) and you expect our friend to understand that nineball? lol
Think he's saying keep them or the one 12 in the box lol (but could be wrong on nineball's meaning)

I mean I get a grasp of it when I read it, but with no background in it it's really hard to have a good understanding of it just by reading that lol.

Thanks for the advice yall. Yeah I wasn't sure on what IB meant but thanks.
At this point I'm considering 1 of 2 things: Building 2 individual boxes for the 2 subs and then mounting them on the sidewall, or just building 1 box and just use 1 12inch sub. Being how small Neons are, I don' think I need that much bass.
Thanks again yall and if there is anymore advice or thoughts, please drop me a line.

hehe IB is really not that hard to do. basically you make a wall behind the rear seats and seal off the cabin from the trunk. it requires much less power than a sealed, ported, bandpass or any other type of enclosure. the tricky part is finding a sub that can perform well in this application.
i am not sure where you live but i have a single alpine type-x 12 that will be going up for sale very soon. it's currently being fed by a pdx 1.1000 and i am looking to downgrade. i don't need the massive "boom" anymore and i am building a smaller scale system, including my new jbl ms-8. i may even be talked into selling the amp with it since they are such a nice set when used together.
