Starting problem

Post by slvr2k » Sat Mar 26, 2011 4:44 pm

Hey all, brand new here with a slight problem I hope you can help me with. The daughter has an automatic 2000 neon that has been acting up recently. You go to start the car and it won’t turn over, doesn’t click or make any noise at all. All the dash lights come on, the battery is good, the terminals are clean but the car won’t start. If I cycle the key (off/on) a couple of times (or more) it will finally kick over and instantly start. I’m a bit stumped but am leaning towards a bad starter unless someone has a better idea. I have a complete parts car (2000 manual neon) so I could swap the starters out but don’t really want to do the work if it’s something else that I’m missing. Any help/suggestion you folks could give is appreciated, thanks

Sounds like a bad ground on the starter to me.

Check the brown wire from the starter to the ecu to the pdc I had to replace mine eliminating the connection at the ecu. Same problem

Give the starter a few taps next time this happens. See if that wakes it up. Consider replacing the starter if that helps start the car.

Try swapping the starter relay with the horn relay, just to be sure it is not that.

Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.
