can anyone tell me where the ground wire from the factory harness actually grounds at? is it a single point or does it join inline with others?

In the '04 FSM it shows it as a common ground:
G201 - Lower Center of Instrument Panel.
Connector C1 pin 11 on the radio.
'01 and older may be different, as they use two connectors.
As for the external ground strap, I can't recall where it connects, but it can't be too far off. I believe they will also ground through the radio antenna, if no other ground path is available.

thanks. looks like i have to pull apart the dash - again. i am assuming that means it is grounded to a bolt/screw under the middle of the cluster, correct?

well i ripped apart the dash today and i could not find where the other end of the radio harness ground was. i had then entire dash out and was still stumped. in the end i went a little ghetto and used the cig lighter ground which solved the ground issue.

If you just need a ground for it, or anything, find a screw or bolt that is attached to a good piece of bare metal.

when i rewire and add the new amps i'll ground directly to the battery but for now it will get me by. everything in my setup is grounded directly to the battery already except for the hu, which was using the stock wire.
