iPhone + stock stereo AUX question

Post by Zarvox » Sat Mar 23, 2013 6:39 pm

I would like to have the music from my iPhone to come trough my stock head unit and up to this point I used a casette adapter - and I did not love it.
Now I am looking for a better solution.
My current setup is a 'casette only' head unit and the 12 CD changer, and a Tomtom car kit.
Is there anything I can connect to the head unit to have an aux input or do I have to solder?

I've seen this:
http://www.amazon.com/PIE-CHRY98-AUX-19 ... 07&sr=1-33
which seems nice, but I'm not very confident since there is no description and I don know anything about these gadgets.

I can live without the CD changer if it's a solid solution.

Any hints/advices are welcome!

I like how the guy did it on SRT forums.

If you're looking for less soldering and customizing, there is a company called USASpec that makes adapters that use the existing plug socket on the head unit for the 4 or 6 disc changer, but what's cool is it allows you to control your iPhone/iPod through the factory head unit. I have one in my 05 that plugged into the 6 disc changer plug, I am not 100% about it working with the 4 disc changer version.

Above is a link to the USA Spec site and the specific product. They say it should work.

If you look for this product, Crutchfield sells it, although they are not the cheapest place to get it. HOWEVER, if you look around on egay or something you will likely end up with a version with old firmware, and as in my case, it will work with every iDevice except your iPhone 4S. Called them about it and they said I could send it in to them for 70 dollars or something stupid, and I'd have to buy a new cable too. So make sure you get one with the right firmware for your phone.

On a side note, this adapter can also be used for an aux/in cable, you just have to plug into the RCAs and then mount your cable somewhere.

Thanks, I've seen this Usa Spec thingy but it's so expensive (especially with shipping, VAT, taxes to Hungary) that I came to a decision:

I'll replace my stock head unit to a JVC KD-X50BTE

I think, I'll need an In-dash Receiver Kit, and a connetor kit

Sorry for the foreign links, but I want to make sure to buy the correct parts :)

For connector default to Bill :D Only other one to get is the antenna adapter and you should be good.

That is the correct connector for models through 2001. 2002 to 2005 used one square connector. The adapter frame looks like it should do also.

Seriously people, this is 2019 not 1920.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.

Thank you guys, I ordered the above stuff, and installed them today.
Everything fits perfectly, and no antenna adapter was necessary.

The new head unit sounds good, but I have to get used to its operation.
I loved the old one's simplicity :)

So thanks again for the advice.
