Stock head unit upgrade, worth it?
Stock head unit upgrade, worth it?
I was bored, so i upgraded the speakers in the neon earlier. Nothing special. Alpine 6.5's in the doors, alpine all around. Just a simple speaker replacement. Then i came to realize i haven't bought a CD in over 10 years, let alone own any cd's. My iphone has ruined me for cd's, and i hate them. I want to run pandora off my phone, and blah. The FM tuners suck, the cassette tuners suck.
I've seen some threads about splicing an aux adapter into the 6 disc changer from an SRT. Don't own the 6 disc changer, so thats out. Then i came across this http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158XDPM110 ... erview-tab
50$. Looks good, just wonder if any of you have used it. Doesn't look like it transmits through am/fm, so thats a plus. Just nosey. I hate cd's..lol

That seems like an overly complicated system to add an AUX input... if you have a junk yard near you you can probably get a 6 or 4 disc changer pretty cheep and make the adapter... or they have other type adapters that i have used that splice into the antenna and in a way work like fm transmitters but they actually work i got one for about 40 at best buy but they may be more now. but tht is a goos solution for the factory radio as it doesnt require much fab or wiring

or this

but your better off just doing a new headunit that has the hook ups you want.

as said above, it's easier to just get an aftermarket head unit.
It'll sound better, and you'll have more options.

They're nice, but you still won't have aux or iPod without a special cord (I think) or the same mod as above.Ramroid wrote:Hmmm. I saw a thread about an rb1 from a jeep liberty. Now that's tempting.
IMO it's better to go with a nice double din over an RBx. OEM looks good, but you get more control and better sound quality out of an aftermarket unit

Yeah, I'll probably end up going aftermarket. I'll bite the bullet and go away from stock.
On an unrelated note. I swapped out my door speakers earlier, and the passenger side only works when I balance the speakers all the way to the right. Any fix for that? The drivers side works when it's balanced too. It's confusing.
