No dash lights or parking lights.

Post by n30np4nd4 » Mon Jan 13, 2014 11:59 am

I got a new car stereo for Christmas and I have been having problems with my car since I installed it. It's a 2005 dodge neon

~The new radio works
~Parking lights don't work
~Dash lights don't work
~Shifter lights don't work
~Fuses are all fine

I am willing to try anything to get it fixed. I love my car!!

Did you check the fuses under the hood? Did you do anything with the grounds behind the HVAC panel?

I checked the fuses in both fuse boxes, and I don't think I did anything with the ground behind the HVAC panel.

splice in a new connector, its not that anything is "shorted" most likely, its a "normal" thing for them to do that from the factory, shitty design = too much load on the lighting circuit

if you want to try to eliminate the problem altogether, i believe there is a how-to on here for installing relays in the circuits. either way the connector still needs replaced

I found great tutorials on how to replace the MFS. These may be dumb questions...but...
How do I keep the connector from melting again?
If the connector is melted does the MFS come with a new connector?

The MFS won't come with a new 24 wire connector. I just got my replacement from a junkyard. The 24pin harness that goes to the doors through the rubber boots is the same as the one at the MFS and those aren't melted :)

Thanks, That means a trip to the junkyard. What kinda tools will I need to pull one out of the doors? and Will this keep happening because my new radio is pulling to much power...or is it just a coincident that mine melted around the same time I installed my radio.

i'm sure it was a coincidence that it melted, the only thing that runs through the MFS to the radio is the dimmer and most times that's not even hooked up. like i said its a common problem for the MFS connector to melt.

Also are you sure the MFS is broken too? i'd replace the wiring first then see if you still have issues. Dont get me wrong it could be both, but i'd fix one thing at a time.

I'm not sure the MFS is broken. So thank you I will start with the wires first! Everyone has been so helpful thanks so much!
