Bad alternator?

Post by 2003se559 » Wed Jan 29, 2014 9:51 am

Hey guys my 03 neon has been draining my battery it takes maybe a week and it drains it, battery is brand new. I was told if I remove the positive wire from the battery post while the car runing it should stay on is this correct? Well mine shuts off rite away and I took it to 2 dif autoparts stores to get my alternator test it and both places said it's good! WTF?. So do I have a short somewhere or the alternator is bad? Can someone help out here? Thanks I'n advance!

Well you really shouldn't test the alternator that way on modern cars.

Check the fusible link. It is where the wire from the alternator connects to the starter lug. If it has burned in two internally, you will have to splice a new link in. And figure out why it failed to begin with.
