Clutch Interlock PCM

Post by Coilwire » Mon Mar 15, 2021 8:23 pm

While back switched ATX in my 2003 Neon 2.0L SXT to MTX been driving car on ATX computer. Now that computer has gone bad finally putting a actual MTX computer in car. Using other info on ATX to MTX swap have speedometer wired on PCM PIN plug already. For clutch interlock was using the PN safety feature for ATX PCM PIN. Have reverse lights tied into R wiring on ATX harness side. Been trying to find info on if the PIN for clutch interlock on PCM works off ground ex. Speed input sensors for ATX(haven't used as example only) or does the clutch interlock PCM PIN work off positive voltage? If PCM PIN works off positive voltage what voltage? Is there another point on computer clutch interlock PCM PIN works in conjunction with to complete the safety feature and start the vehicle? Don't want to destroy the new MTX computer with wrong pos/neg setup on PCM PIN or PINs if another PCM PIN is needed to complete interlock circuit. Thank you in advance if anybody has info on this!

Yeah, most of the "circuit sense" inputs are to ground.

For those unfamiliar, the interlock doesn't actually make a circuit through a switch in the starter solenoid circuit like old school, it just checks to see if the switch is engaged to ground, before energizing the starter relay coil.

The A/C clutch control is the same way, the HVAC panel knob grounds the circuit in the needed positions, so the PCM will energize the A/C relay. I believe the traction control is the same also.

It helps keep higher current/larger wires to a minimum. The sense wires could be a smaller gauge than what they are. Using a test light probing the A/C sense will turn on the A/C if the car is running. The light does not illuminate, but the filament is enough to ground the circuit, and satisfy the PCM that the state of the circuit has changed.
