Black out your OEM fogs

Post by 02goldse » Fri Apr 23, 2010 11:08 am

i havent seen anyone do this just on headlights, so i figured im going to try and see if i can do it to my fogs and it worked. TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK

Tools:
10mm wrench
spackle scraper(small)
grease and wax remover( to clean the insides)
super glue/ nail glue

Steps:

First, i preheated my oven at 225, then i placed the foglights on a cookie sheet in the oven and waited. i really dont know how long i waited cuz i kept going back to make sure they didnt melt, so how long you wait is up to you, after all that i got this:

Second, i took the grease and wax remover and cleaned the inside of the fogs, then after they were clean and dry i took some vht i had lying around and sprayed the insides, i would recommened black paint instead vht is kinda runny, but they came out like this:

Third and Final, i reassembled the foglights and got this:

im happy with the way they came out  hope i see more like this, hope i made a step stone for more

i was thinking about doing this to mine, but was afraid to mess it up since they are brand new fogs, and are expensive (to me) to replace. Looks good though rob although with no reflector at all i'm sure your light output went down.

Not bad. The nightshades I had put on the outside of mine has pretty much flaked off and looks like ass. This would be a good way to tint the inside of the glass if you were going for a blacked-out look too.

Lol sorry, I just wanted to burst someone's bubble.

Oh well, at least you are the only one on the forum with those. That guy in the link sold his neon a while back.

Plus, he kept the chrome housing part chrome so that there is actually some reflective output. Nice idea, but I think they'll light up way worse than you want.

jenni i ran with the fogs on for my whole 1hr30 drive to school and the paint seemed fine, i used night shades so im pretty sure it can with stand the heat better than normal black spray paint, but so far they are holding up and i also put them in the oven on 250 to reseal them and the paint was fine

slvr your jerk :banghead: lol oh well i tried :(
