I made my in car cam mount out of a peice of plastic brick molding works well took me 15 mins and $0

ive seen some on ebay where they connect to the oh smurf handles in the back seat. u take off the handles and place the bar across.

Another thing that guy could try to prevent his shaking, especially at idle, is switch the bracket around so it's connected to the driver's side headrest. The weight of his body would probably keep the camera mount from shaking as much...

Then again, you might have it moving a bit more from your body weight shifting around if you're doing hard cornering.

Still an awesome write-up! I think I might try to fab one up before Carlisle.

I'm also going to try to fab up an exterior mount as well, since I have access to a few super heavy weight (100lb.) magnets.

I just finished making mine. I bought everything needed for the mount plus a few extra bolts and washers and spent right around $20. Can't beat it! I also picked up some adhesive ultra-rubber weatherstripping that I used on the two bars to help eliminate sliding of the mount and vibration... Seems to have worked perfect!

That looks like a really good idea, ive been looking into this for months. I actually might be able to afford this! Im thinkin about connecting the driver and pass seats for max stability. Aside from the seats not being free to move independantly, does anyone forsee any other issues with this idea? I tend to miss obvious stuff sometimes haha. Oh, and has anyone come up with a way to make it adjustable for camera angle?

Anyone whos dont this (including you mike) needs to post pics NOW

hmm, not a bad idea.. i just used my pos tripod on the passenger floor... what about taking apart a tripod mount to add to that rig for adjusting the angles....

Here are some pics of mine. Use the directions in the originally posted How-To link as a guide only. The dimensions may need to be altered a bit... Like I made my short piece of aluminum 12" instead of 10" because that shortened the main piece so it wasn't running into my ear on the driver's side.

Thewhole thing's fairly adjustable as far as centering the camera in the car, as far as angles go, do what it takes to mount your extra tripod adapter on it - That'd be sweet! I'm just using the 'recline' feature on the passenger side seat set at fully upright and the seat itself pushed all the way back. It seems perfect to me. Here's a still shot taken with the camera mounted and the seat adjusted properly:

The weatherstripping to help with shock and vibration.

This is going to make an AWESOME video the next time I get a fire call.

Just finished mine, a bit custom but generally the same idea. I originally had one bar connect to both seats, but learned that the camera angle is too steep and that the seats must be at very different angles to allow both good driver position and good camera angle. Adjustability is my next goal, as the view is pretty lame. Ill post pics later if anyone is interested.

That looks wonderful until you have an accident and your head gets impaled by a half-inch square piece of aluminum.... I hope everyone who does this has a 4 or 5 point racing harness.

When I'm not recording anything the bracket's not on. And if anything, it's my neck that will get impaled.

Here are a few pics of my camera bracket. Wrapped it in electric tape to clean up the look a bit and take some of the sharpness away. Cost me about 20 bucks for materials total, including a throw away hack saw since I dont have one laying around. If you include the leftover crap, its really only about 8-10 bucks worth of material. Very cool mod.

looks good ryan, cant beat FREE!

Im still trying to come up with a cheap way to get a better angle. Our seats forward tilt is FTL. Cant afford to mod it to work with the tripod mount, so I have to find another way. I tried a sample video the other night but the built in g sensor in my camera sensed the vibrations and insane cornering forces (ok im joking about the second part... kinda

) and shut itself off in ten seconds. I ran a 5 minute run expecting a dang video!!! I gotta turn that feature OFF.

Im bringing this one back up, I just picked up a mini tripod for $1 and it tucks right into the hole under the headrest, in the fabric. Did a quick test, and it holds up fine. I'll get a pick after I get out of work. I was going to do the metal one, but as someone mention, I don't like the idea of sharp metal that close to my head.

EDIT: Yea, it didn't work out so well when I took off, I looked over and it was aiming at the roof. Works ok if I stick it in the vents to record the gauges.
