How To: Replace ALL Speakers - PICS FIXED!!!

Post by Hudson_Neon » Sun Sep 02, 2007 12:47 pm

ok, so there was a discussion in the audio section and i told the guy that i'd do a how-to, so here it is...

DASH SPEAKERS:

start by removing the screws on the sides when you open the doors
Image
Image

then the screws up in the vent on top of the dash
Image
Image

then remove the A-Pillar covers, i found that just giving them a tug works
Image

then lift the dash up and out
Image

then put your new speakers in
Image
Image

reverse for putting it back together

DOOR SPEAKERS:

start by removing these three screws
Image
Image
Image

then go around the edges and pry the door panel off, i recommend plastic pry tools, i got the "expensive" set http://www.genuinehotrod.com/SearchResu ... Search=pry

Image
Image

then disconnect the linkage and any plug-ins
Image
Image

next remove the plastic that angles the speaker and put your new speaker in
Image
Image

do the same for both doors in front. reverse for putting it together. remember to plug everything back in

REAR DECK SPEAKERS:

start by grabbing the bottom half and lift up, comes out rather easy
Image
Image

then remove the four T-55 Torx bolts, you might need a cheater bar
Image

next give the seat-back a little lift and it's out
Image

then just pull the carpeting down and replace your speakers
Image

reverse everything when putting it back together. remember when you put the seat-back back in to place that it slides in on the top and put the outside belts on the front side of the seat so as not to bolt them down... that sucks

i hope that that's everything

After undoing those huge torque for the back seat a few times, I found out that you can actually just take off the carpet on the rear deck if you use some ingenuity.

Removing the rear seat is probably the proper way to do it though, it also gives you more access into the trunk to install your speakers. But if you're looking to save some time...

just bumpin this cause i've been poking my head in the audio section and there ALWAYS seems to be somebody wondering how to do this...

i may be a little biased, but i would think that making it a sticky at in the audio section might help

When you put the water damn back up (the plastic) make sure its still all sticky. If not, make it sticky and put it back up. Also, when putting the rear cushion back in sometimes the latches (the metal part) don't want to go in place. All you have to to is push the cushion towrds the rear of the car, and put your knee on the seat until in pops in place. Oh, and nice HT.

Spray the bolts with penetrating fluid. I had my seats out for about a month and didn't tighten the bolts all the way down. Now they don't want to go in, thinking there's a hole in the bottom and water is getting in.

From Crutchfield.
In-dash stereo
7-3/16" depth; Size code E
Front speakers
Dash: 3-1/2"
Front Door: 6-3/4"
Rear speakers
Rear Deck: 6x9"
I just bought tweeters and fabbed a mount for them. Used the factory speakers for the template, and tin snipped away.

What's funny though is that even though Crutchfield lists the fronts as 3.5", they seem to think that none of their 3.5" speakers fit a Neon.

Well, maybe not funny to people wondering if there is any mounting issues with "standard" aftermarket 3.5" speakers.

Do aftermarket 6.5s fit in the plastic piece in the door? If so I need to find a drivers door plastic piece.

Maybe trying to bring this back from the dead may be too much to ask but, does anyone have specific advise for aftermarket dash 3.5"s? Part numbers, links, and/or pics, greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, hopefully someone out there hears this. lol

Thank you sir!! now are any mods needed to run with a oem deck? (I have an RB4 that controls my dash speakers at the moment.) I just wonder if there is a difference in impedance from the stockers to aftermarket like these. it says 4 ohm so, should be direct fit no rewire or mods necessary, amiright? Thanks for your help and advise

well i can't speak on the terms of the RB4, but all i did was splice the speaker into the stock harness.

Perfect. The only reason I mention my RB4 is bc it is currently running my stock dash speakers. So since these new aftermarket speakers are the same specs, I should be able to drop em in and go. I am a happy camper. Thank you sir!

THANKS for posting pictures of those stoopid screws !!

Those are the first pics of those, that I have ever seen.
People have trouble 'finding' those, because they are somewhat invisible and folks don't know, that they are even there.
