How-To: install a second cluster parallel

Post by Gnuserup » Sat Sep 03, 2011 2:50 pm

Tried on our wrecked donor today

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7gr04Jp4VA

The second cluster is still working (ok just the mileage, temp and rpm, tach might, but took no ride with the car  ). I connected just pin 2, 10 and 15 on the cluster with the data-link-connector (pin 2, 4 or 5, 16) with engine already running - the car is totalled and the battery dead ...

Have to make some more testing next time on my running neon and will see what happens, if the second cluster is installed on the dash and the original is only linked in.

What might this be good for ?

I hope, as we learned the cluster is more intelligent as we thought until now, to get a second cluster connected through pci-bus as a kind of a dongle to activate autostick, maybe ABS.

I wonder why the clusters on our 2000 donor won´t show the e-brake light, if I change the clusters in any way I like. I tried another 99 BUX-LE cluster (same as the origin was) and the uk cluster. The e-brake light only flashes if I pull the e-brake.

On my 2005 SXT that light had been flashing as described in different threads if I installed either the BUX or the UK cluster.

Is that maybe a pre-NGC vs. NGC or a BUX vs. non BUX thing ??

Hmmm, I don't think our e brake light flashes on our clusters. I think the problem with ours is only if the RT or SRT cluster is used in a non tach car, the e brake light stays on. That was my experience.

This is what it looks like if I use a different cluster on my 05 SXT

In the picture above I took a UK cluster, don´t think it had been out of a R/T. Same behavior with a km/h BUX cluster.

The UK cluster works fine in the BUX 00 LE.
