Wow, good to know. More so for a dealer like us that does sell tires. We get our tires from many sources, and keep quite a few on hand. I wouldn't want a customer to come in and ask about tire age and have us not know what he is talking about.

I'll be checking my tires. I've been a little curious about my tires. I've noticed a little bit of cracking on them, even though they are only a couple years old and have 50,000 miles on them.

Eh, fill the cracks with shoe polish, you'll be fine.

I'm going to have Discount Tire check mine at the next rotation. Chilling- the Wal-Mart here in Indianapolis that was mentioned in the report... too close to home.

Years ago when I bought a new car or bought replacement tires, the Goodyear dealer that I did business with would always enter the serial number for each tire on a form that, after being mailed to Akron, gave me a longer warranty than what came from the factory. They don't do this anymore.

good info for sure. i have never heard about that before until now.

going to check out my tires just for the heck of it, and then ask to inspect any tires i ever buy before they are put on the car.

Very good info. I checked my tires about 3/4 of the way through the video, I was getting a tad paranoid. All my tires were made in 2006, when I bought them, and my two new tires were made this year. Keeps me safer and a little happier.

i bought my Mich. X-ICE tires in summer of 2006, so i had them for just bout two years..well from watching this video i found out they actually sat on tire racks shelf for 2 years..they were made the 20 week of 2003! so my tires have to be replaced after this winter for the 6 year rule! ARGGGGG

I bought mine this march and they are the second week of 2007. Can't check the winters they're hiding right now, though I am buying two new rear winters this season.

So then... the video didn't really explain what to do when buying new tires. Ask to look at the date of them? *shrugs*

What you want to do is go look at tires oddball sizes mostly and bitch and moan if they are more than a month old ie the asshole behind me at sears last week. Tire age isnt as importatnt as quality if you want a hard and fast rule buy in common sizes and buy Japinese Toyo, Falken, Kuhmo,ect or some Indiana gummy ie hooiser

Josh I would say yes, look at the date...especially if its a winter tire. Those sit around longer I would imagine.

that was really good info to have...but it seems like most tires that are older than 6 years are safe...its just some that go bad cuz there have got to be some really old tires out there that are still on the road doin just fine.

i def would not want to buy a 2 year old brand new tire tho lol

regardless whether or not a 6+ year old tire is safe or not, now that you know how to check the date dont you want to pay full price for a NEW tire, rather than an OLD tire?

you wouldnt buy a 6 year old sandwich from the deli, so why would you with anything else if you had a choice..

Hm. So then. I guess when my new winter tires come in, I'll check the date... and if they're several years old I'll call them up and bitch.
