Lug nut sizes

Post by JustJordan » Mon Nov 24, 2008 10:17 pm

So I'm not sure I understand lug nut sizes..

Neons use 12mmx1.5
So if I got some wheels that were 14mmx1.5 (but the same bolt pattern and offset) I would need a new set of lugs nuts for them to fit properly or no? Or does that even make sense????!

No, that doesn't make sense

The wheel should have no bearing on the stud size, unless the wheel had extremely small lug openings.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Seems like the bolt hole used to be larger? M14 instead of M12? Anybody?

What kind of wheels did you get? It could be that the wheels have the lug holes drilled (or made) to fit a 14mm stud. That wouldn't matter as much if the wheel is hub centric, but if the lug nut doesn't sit flush in the hole, that would be pretty bad.

Supposedly they are off a Jetta. They have nearly new tires so I just wanted to throw them on for winter, as mine are getting pretty low tread.

Hopefully they will pass that stimulus early next year so I can get some nice wheels =)

I think as long as the center hub hole fits over the hub center it will be fine. I think the seats for the lugnut cones are pretty universal. The only thing that could go wrong there,is if they have a different taper angle. Say like 30º vs 45º just as an example. I have never had a problem with swapping dual pattern wheels between vehicles with 12 and 14mm studs the holes all are the same ID.

Interesting.

I think I'll pick em up. Tires alone are worth it.

Thanks guys. I'll post pics when I get em!

The rims I have are from a 94 vw corrado, no clue on the specs, but they fit fine.
