There are a couple of steps I'm looking into in the reconfiguration of my suspension setup. One is looking at wider wheels, but I want lightweight. The only ones I've been able to find that I like so far are Enkeis.

So... Are Enkei's the only real good lightweight wheel out there or are there others that I'm missing? No knock offs

My preference is a multi-spoke 17"x7 (or 7.5) weighing in at about 17lbs each or less and silver.

Well these aren't silver, but they are light. I wanted to get these and people flamed me so bad.. I think they look awesome. They're only 14.5 lbs.

Make sure that when you go wider you also add some sidewall. A wide tire with a short sidewall isn't going to benefit you too much as the sidewall really helps reduce wheel spin and mid corner loss of traction.

yeah, I was planning on upping the tires to go with these wheels to match that of the SRT platform.

I laughed a bit (in an evil way) when you asked for 17" wheels and had "17lbs" and "light" in the same sentence. Get with the program!


SSR Type-F - 17X7.5 - 15.3 lbs

Volk TE37 - 17X7.5 - 15.3 lbs

SSR Type C - 17X7.5 - 14.9 lbs

Volk CE28N - 17X7.5 - 12.32 lbs


Better get your wallet a band aid though, cuz these are gonna hurt it!

I have to ask though, why go for 17's if weight is your primary concern? Some of the above wheels are available in the 10-11 lb range in 15-16" sizes. They are also narrower, which helps with clearance issues.

P.S. Yes, a few of these are potential wheels for the OB mobile. Anyone who asks why I don't have wheels yet, google the price on any of the above wheels, even in smaller sizes.

I know that 17lbs isn't the lightest wheel out there, but it IS less than our 24lbs wheels

I think the Enkeis that I've seen are roughly 16.4lbs for the 17x7.5 or x8.

Also, the reason for 17" rims is because I still need to be able to clear my Wilwoods, which are fitted to just fit in the SRT rim (so i'm using that as my starting point).

I shouldn't have any real clearance issues because I'm on Coilovers.

My other primary concern here is that when you go lightweight I've heard that strength can go out the window which is why I'm looking for... yes... "get your wallet a band aid" brand.

I'll have to look into those wheels your recommended...

I recommend forged one piece wheels for max strength. However, any of the above brands cast designs are MUCH stronger than the knock off duplicates. Better material, better machines, and MUCH better post production inspection methods and standards. Coilovers might buy you another 1" or so, but remember, 7.5" is the smallest width most of these wheels come in. A lot of them get as wide as 17X10! So clearance can indeed still affect you should you decide to go balls out and stick some 235/245 width tires on that beast. Forgot about the Wilwoods too, that's about the best excuse I've heard in a long time haha. I say get some 8" wide ones and stretch the tires a bit. Would look ridiculous!

my works are 16x7 35 offset and are 16 pounds each.

i think you would benefit much better from 16's instead of 17's.

BC coilovers. To be this low, you NEEEEED to roll the front fenders.

He has big brakes. He isn't going to be able to run less than a 17" wheel.

there's a significant amount of clearance with these 16's.

how much clearance is there on your 17's? we are talking about an extra 1/2 inch on one side.

To quote Hansken, his kit "just fits" an SRT wheel.

If that wheel has the same clearance as the SRT wheel then it will work, otherwise it will not.

funny, i was pondering a brake upgrade myself. i was going to need to measure any way. I'll do that tommorow at work.

just had a look at the modern performance website on the wilwood front BB kit. i don't think the issure is really the radius of the wheel, as the radius minimum would be just above 7.2 inches. the real kicker is that there is a minimum of 1.2 inches for spokes on your wheel. That is where the caliper depth into rim is. between 3.95" and 6.60" from centerline of wheel. didn't have time to measure tonight. as soon as i can, i will post. I would love to get a set in red for myself. If they fit under stock skittle wheels, and my 16's, i WILL be purchasing, lord knows i need to stop as fast as i can boost this bish.

Look at some Centerlines. Mine were 19" Forged and only weighted 15.6 and cost me under $200 a wheel. They come in black, polished and I think bronze

Yeah, I'm not sure if 16" would work, but I'm really partial to 17" Not a fan of lots of rubber showing

Just get a set of RFP1 Enkei's and powder coat them black! 17x8 FTW.

I cant afford the fancy forged stuff but these look nice, relatively light for a 17" and will work well for my all seasons and then I will keep my 15x7 Slipstreams with something more sticky for the summer.

Those do look nice. They need to be silver though

As for affording. I can't right now, I'll be saving up for it over the course of time. With my spirited driving style, tracking and roads, I want to be sure the wheels will hold up. I've read several different articles of nockoff wheels not holding up to these things very well.
