I have done extensive searching on the forums here to find out if 17x7.5 with 40 offset would fit on stock suspension on my 03 neon. I have read that the answer is no, but I have found pictures that show otherwise. So I need to know. I bent 3 of my rims last week and need to order replacements and and looking at some with these specs.

Please let me know. I saved the links to the threads I found that was running them. I just want to know before ordering them.

^^ three rims???? and to answer, yes the will fit but may require 5mm spacers

We have had bad weather here which we haven't had in about ten years, and I was in the middle of changing lanes on I-65 heading to Nashville to see a Predators game, and when I changed lanes I hit a pot hole the full width of the lane and about 1 foot long. So three rims bent and I cracked the sidewall on a tire. Nashville that night put up a thing on the news that they would replace damaged wheels, but unfortunately, it was on a state interstate and not a city road, so they won't cover it. My insurance doesn't cover aftermarket stuff anymore, that is what I am changing to another company in March when my policy is about to end.

What offset do I need if I purchase aftermarket wheels for my SRT-4?

This is dependent on numerous variables such as wheel width, wheel diameter and tire size but generally speaking offsets in the range of 35mm to 45mm will work. An offset lower than 35mm will place the wheel out and past the fender and an offset higher than 45mm will place the wheel too far inwards making it come into contact with the brake calipers and/or suspension. Please note that the spoke design of a wheel plays an important role in determining fitment on higher offsets such as wheels with a 42mm or 45mm because they come into close contact with the front brake calipers. The rear brake calipers do not have this issue because of their smaller size and design. To avoid any clearance issues it is recommended that you find a wheel with an offset between 35-40mm. This is more or less just playing it safe so you don't buy a set of new wheels only to find out that they don't clear the front calipers. On that same note this does not imply that a wheel with a 42 or 45mm offset will not fit over the calipers. It will all depend on the spoke design of that particular wheel. There are plenty of wheels with a 42mm or 45mm offset that fit but there are also just as many that do not. It's always best to search the forums to see if another member has fitted a particular wheel of your interest.

Okay, I'm ready to buy some new wheels but how do I know which offset works with the wheel size I want?

As stated previously, there are many variables that come into play. Use the following as your guide for determining offset. This applies to 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 inch wheels:

7.0-7.5 inch wide wheels generally fit with offsets of 35-40mm.*see prior paragraph regarding exceptions noted in red*
8.0 inch wide wheels will generally fit with offsets of 35-38mm with some wheels fitting with 40mm offset on coilovers. When going to a wider wheel the problem isn't so much clearance with the calipers but rather tire clearance with the stock struts and transmission case.
8.5 inch wide wheels will require a 35mm offset on stock struts. On coilovers, 35-38mm.
9.0 & up inch wide wheels are too wide for the car and have not been proven to fit.

I know it says srt4 but there the same. i got this off of srtforums.

thank you, I kinda understand that and I didn't think about looking over there due to the reason I know the SRT suspension is more forgiving.

These are the ones I am looking into getting and once I an clear to go ahead and buy these I will.

JP, yeah I'm pretty sure those wheels will fit, depending on what tire you run. Gonna have to be a skinny one. Can you get the wheel in a 7" and/or +35 offset?

nope that is the only size they come in unfortunately.

I am getting them for wholesale cost that is why they are so cheap. The guy is one of my past sponsors, and he also sell on ebay as well. I was thinking about running 215/40/17 or if I could get by with it running 215/45/17. This is why I need help and answers.

I will be going with a different wheel. I was looking around and my hopes of the long time "LUX" neon may continue.

Keep in mind I am not kitted anymore or lowered but hope to get back to being lowered on Prokit springs toward the end of the year. I was having to many suspension issues with the sportlines I took them off. But the car is undergoing construction and new parts as we speak as well and replacing the rims.
