It's time for new tires, and after looking around, I am thinking of a set of Falken Ziex ZE-512 in 195 60R14. These will go on the stock steelies. I've searched the forums and it looks like a few people have run this size on the stock steelies with no problem, and it looks like the speedo won't be too far off (1.3 MPH under at 75). Anyone hae experience with these tires?

Ive also had a set. Treadwear sucks if you drive like an idiot. Snow traction sucks but they do well in the wet, quite on the road, and mine wore pretty evenly.

Thanks for the responses. I think I'll end up getting these. I wanted something different than the plain old Firestones I had on. Since I won't be driving like a lunatic, these should work fine.

Had them on my car. Treadlife is the worst thing ever. I have about 10k on my current tires and they look like new. At 6k the 512's were into the wear bars.

same problem here, i got the 512's in 205 40 17, good alignment, didn't drive like a total maniac and still wore them bald in under 10k. Those tires are probably pretty old too as they are discontinued now...

Falken still makes them. Just for discount tire however.

I don't know if this means a whole lot, but after doing a lot more searching, it seems that on a lot of different "enthusiast" sites, they rave about how good these tires are, while the regular Joes in stock Civics and minivans say they're junk. I don't know if that says anything about how those people maintain their cars or what. I guess Consumer Reports also rated them very highly not too long ago. Either way, I'm going Saturday morning to get these, and might slip over to get the alignment (lifetime alignments FTW!) done too if I can get my little girl to go along with me for that long. I'd wait out the pothole season but it needs to get done.

I say get the ziex 329's. They're a little cheaper, and last longer. I run them on my 98 as street tires, and they work pretty well.

White_Death your statement might mean something if it was about traction issues to where a normal idiot doesn't know what he is looking for and an enthusiast does.

But it doesn't take a genius to know that my tires are bald is 6k miles.

I looked around for someone in the Indy area that carries those and didn't have any luck. I've had to wait to go till tomorrow (stupid credit union isn't open Saturdays) so I'll get them on in the morning, and post pics when I can.
